Scottie Scheffler received a whole new base after his recent victory at the 2023 Players Championship. And not just that, but the golfer also reached the world no. 1 pedestal on the OWGR leaderboard. Scottie Scheffler opens up about his fans’ perception of his World No. 1 ranking

Scheffler, 26, has achieved a lot in his PGA Tour career at a very young age. It takes several years for players to prove themselves on the field. However, despite all the success he has tasted in a while, Scheffler doesn’t take pride in his achievements. The golf star was a world no. 1 for a cumulative 32 weeks starting March 2022. And now that he has made it to the top again, he has a pretty humble approach toward his position.

When asked if he ever felt like being the best player in the world when he held the first official rank for the most weeks, he had an extremely soft response“No, not really.”, he said. “I think I’m always trying to improve… If you feel like you’re at the top, you’re not really motivated to continue to work. For me, I’ve never felt like No. 1 in the world.”

He was also asked about how fans looked at him compared to how they looked at Rory McIlroy when he was World No. 1. And according to him, their perception of him doesn’t affect him that much. But at the same time, he also agreed to the fact that people actually looked at him differently than McIlroy, despite holding the same position as one another. “Since I maybe got to the top so quickly, maybe people didn’t perceive me as being the best player in the world, whatever that means,” Scheffler said.

Well, there is definitely a specific image of the golfer among his fans, and it is not very good. And not just golf fans, but also other athletes and famous sportsmen have made strong remarks about the player’s personality. It was only a few days ago when NHL legend Ryan Whitney called the golfer ‘boring’ despite his amazing win at the Players Championship! He also praised him for his performance and called him a machine. But his opinion about how Scheffler is as a person was not in the golfer’s favor.
