Tom Brady shocked the entire world with his retirement news this week. The NFL legend’s exit from the game has saddened many in the sports world. But many now are also wondering what comes next for the 45-year-old. While some hope his retirement won’t last, golf fans hope the quarterback starts swinging his clubs more regularly. Another NFL star who retired from the sport late last year, also stands with these golf fans.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ former quarterback had proven himself to be one of the best. After 23 seasons in the NFL and seven Super Bowl rings, he called it quits this week. But what comes next for Brady? Could it be golf like he’s previously spoken about?

Soon after Brady announced his retirement this week, everyone sent their well wishes his way. Among them was also J.J. Watt, who took to Twitter to send his regards to the 7-time Super Bowl winner’s way. “Greatest of All Time,” he wrote. “No question, no debate.” “It’s been an honour and a privilege.”

Watt, who himself took an exit from the NFL in December last year, also had another message for the newest member joining the retiree’s cohort. “The newly retired group meets on the golf course every morning at 10am,” he wrote hilariously. “Drinks are on the new guy, so bring your wallet.”

The PGA Tour page was also inspired by the defensive end’s words to Brady. Tagging the two on Twitter, they wrote, “When one door closes, another opens.” With the two NFL stars now retired, perhaps a career in golf is now as farfetched as it sounds. The two are already quite good with a golf club. And meeting every morning will certainly help hone their skills further.

Brady’s iconic history with golf

Unsurprisingly, the NFL legend has spent a lot of time on the golf course. But often, that time came alongside some legendary golfers. In 2020, he paired up with Phil Mickelson to take on Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning in the second edition of the charity exhibition series, ‘The Match’. Unfortunately, Brady couldn’t grab a win that night.

In 2021, the pros teamed up with Lefty once more, this time against Bryson DeChambeau and Aaron Rodgers. Despite their incredible performance, they yet again suffered defeat in the series. But the 7-time Super Bowl winner isn’t one to back down so easily.

Brady played in the sixth edition of the series, too. He teamed up with his previous opponent, Aaron Rodgers, and went on to beat Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. The quarterback had finally gotten his win. And now that he has a bit more time on his hands, maybe he will go after the pros who bested him.
