Have you seen top players having separate locker rooms from other players on the team? Never right. This is a rare sight for the fans, but during the Ryder Cup, something similar came to notice for the fans. The news with the World No. 2, Xander Schauffele, and Patrick Cantlay being accused of it. However, it has been a while since the event, but the golf world will always have it in a corner of their memory. The unique incident fans at the course even mimicked.
Something similar happened during the Drop Zone podcast, where Schauffele joined in as a guest. The host Dylan Dethier asked about his locker room experience being a part of different sports, while in mid-conversation, the locker room incident was brought up for which the 2-time major champion shared his thoughts.
The host asked him, stating, “You are fully out of your shell now,” and requesting his experience of the locker room, which was shown to be fun by the golfer. Answering that, the American golfer said, “Yeah, yeah, it’s all genuine. It really is, it’s fun to share a room. It’s fun. Caddies and players in the same locker room.”

Schauffele was further answering and sharing his experience, but interestingly the locker room incident memory of Detheir refreshed, for which he said, “Except for the other locker that you and Pat had.” Laughingly, the golfer said, “Right, exactly. Man, the media is a funny one.” During the Ryder Cup 2023, a rumor spread that both Schauffele and Cantlay are opposing the players not getting paid to represent the country. The rumour even went on to decipher that Cantlay to show his dissatisfaction stopped wearing the team’s hat.
Continuing, Schauffele said, “You know, I think everyone in our locker room knows exactly what’s going on in our locker room.” While continuing, he kept on sharing his experience of the locker room and shared what he enjoyed. He even said, “It brings you way back and It makes you feel like a kid again. It’s something I really really enjoy.”

However, Xander Schauffele might not have shared much in the podcast, but in reality, the news earlier was spread as wildfire and even fans were seen mimicking Cantlay’s move during the Ryder Cup of not wearing a hat.
The Ryder Cup controversy
The Ryder Cup was always a very charged-up event, but the 2023 edition got a little extra with the controversy. A report came out on Saturday at 5 AM ET hours before the tee off by Sky Sports that shared, “Understand from several sources that the US team room is fractured, a split led predominantly by Patrick Cantlay.” Even along with Cantlay, Schauffele was also in the report, which shared that both players refused to attend the gala dinner and “is sitting in a separate area of the team dressing room.”

Jamie Weir of Sky Sports also cited that the duo pushed to keep Netflix cameras in the U.S. team room. However, Cantlay called the story false and the U.S. team made jokes about the news of the rift in their room. Clearing about the news Cantlay shared during after-match interviews with NBC Sports’ Steve Sands stating, “It’s totally false, it couldn’t be further from the truth. There hasn’t been one word of that all week. The U.S. Team has been close all week. It’s just outright lies.”
Even though the series of events had fans waving caps at him, rumors of him not wearing a cap to demand Ryder Cup players’ salaries and sledding from fans were all past. But what is still in the mind of the fans is the memory of what if the report was true. What are your thoughts on the report? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
