Having scored the opening nine with six birdies at the Kentucky greens in round three, the Irishman Shane Lowry needed just another birdie at the par-5 18 to be the first man to card a 10-under, 71. However, it was a failed layup, and he hit the wedge to 12 feet, not being able to convert it into a birdie putt. Nonetheless, he settled for a 62-under, with 9 birdies in the third round, becoming only the second player after Xander Schauffele to go as low! This scorched him to the T4 position, tied with Bryson DeChambeau and Viktor Hovland.

Shane Lowry landed himself on the Top-3 so far only in 2 events, which includes the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March, and his win at the Zurich Classic last month alongside Rory McIlroy. Now, it looks like the PGA Championship might bring another feat of victory for him. However, when asked if his first and only win of the season had something to do with his recent accolade, he denied it.

As the penultimate round at the Valhalla concluded on Saturday, in an interview question, he confessed that although it felt great to have won at the Zurich Classic, his next trip to the greens had not been a notable one. Lowy dropped down to a T47 at the Wells Fargo Championship last week, with a disappointing score of 7-over. And now once again, his game has gotten top-notch.

Thus, although with Rory McIlroy by his side, the Zurich Classic had been one hell of an experience for him, with added benefits of course. They not only took home great prize money, but also grabbed 500 FedEx points, and boosted his confidence, but it has nothing to do with his performance at the PGA Championship.

“Yeah, it was nice to get the win at the Zurich, but you just move on quickly and get on to the next event”, added Lowry. Well, that’s what the game of golf is according to him. With a different set of ups and downs, each week bearing unexpected luck.

It is rather significant to also add that the stunner at the PGA Championship is nothing less than that of a win at any event. He created history only for the fourth time as a Major. Before he and Xander Schauffele touched the 62 score mark at the 2024 PGA Championship, only two players had achieved that feat priorly.

Xander Schauffele- the only player who bagged a 62 twice in two years!

Branden Grace became the first-ever golfer to touch the magical score of 62 in a Major Championship. In the 2017 Open Championship, three birdies in the last five holes led him to bag one of the best scores on the course! However, he did not get to enjoy a victory for himself, and it was a T6 finish for him.

Xander Schauffele is the only player who bagged a 62 in a Major event twice in a row. Last year at the US Open, he made a victorious feat of scoring his first 8-under, 62 in the opening round, which was followed by Rickie Fowler in the very same round. Well, just like Grace, neither of the players could take the win. While Schauffele landed himself with a T10 finish, Fowler barely reached the Top 5 with a T5 finish.

As the pages of history predict, none of the players who have bagged the 62 score has been able to take home the trophy. Does that mean Shane Lowry has fewer chances to grab his second win of the season? With just one more round to the conclusion of the second Major of the year, stay tuned to find out what’s in store for him!
