The hype around the Ryder Cup is slowly building up as the two teams prepare to duke it out on the golf course at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club. Many golfers have made it onto their respective teams, while some are on the lookout for their call to the squad, which would perhaps not happen anytime soon. Such is especially the case for the European LIV Golf players as they are currently “exiled” from the showdown against the USA.

European legend shares his opinion on the exiles
Tony Jacklin, a four-time Ryder Cup captain for Europe, shared his outlook regarding the European players who resigned their DP World Tour memberships to join the Saudi-backed league. Offering no sympathy for the defectors, he mentioned how they should not have anything to do with the prestigious tournament since they are ineligible due to their departure from the Tour.
It is still unclear whether the quartet, including Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, and Henrik Stenson, will be able to return to the overall picture on any grounds due to the merger. Nevertheless, Jacklin was of the strong belief that there are consequences to every action and they should learn to deal with it. Moreover, continuing his opinion, the 79-year-old said, “No they shouldn’t be in the Ryder Cup,” as he expressed his strong displeasure with the idea.
The two-time major champion also mentioned how one quickly tends to get more immaterial as they get older. “You become irrelevant. I am irrelevant. I’ve got my memories and respect from most people but you are just a memory. That’s what they’ll become,” said the ex-golfer while predicting what was in the future for the LIV defectors after their contract gets over.

The LIV loyalists were allowed to play in certain PGA Tour tournaments and could qualify for the US team like Brooks Koepka did or get picked into the squad as one of the captain’s six picks.

LIV Defectors and their shot at the Ryder Cup US team
Although the PIF-funded league was not able to offer any FedEx Cup or OWGR points to the players, it became a stage for the American golfers to impress the captain of the US team for the Ryder Cup, Zach Johnson. Many golfers including Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, and others are in the hopes of getting picked by the skipper as many are voicing their opinion for the same.
The skipper has not been very clear about his decision to include the players and this does lead to a curtain of uncertainty to loom over their selection to the side. But while all is said and done, this has not stopped players like DeChambeau from achieving an insane feat on the golf course as he scored a career-low 13-under 58 in the Greenbrier event.
Will Bryson and the likes be able to make the team for the prestigious cup? Who else do you think will make it? Let us know in the comments below.
