Blades Brown, a young sophomore at Brentwood Academy, made history on August 15, 2023, at the U.S. Amateur Championship in Colorado. Not only did he grab a medal besides his name, but he became the youngest ever to do this. The outstanding part comes in for the young golfer in having broken a century-old record.

It was through Instagram by flushingitgolf that a video titled “16-year-old becomes youngest ever medalist in US Am” was uploaded. While the video gained enormous applause, it was the caption that caught the eye of everyone around. The caption to the post started with, “16 yo Blades Brown became the youngest ever co-medalist of the US Am.”

Brown achieved this honor with a blazing shot of eight-under 64, matching the course record for Colorado Golf Club. The young golfer, who has been 16 for only about 3 months, broke the record of the legendary Bobby Jones. Jones claimed the co-medalist title in 1920, when he was 2 years older than Brown’s current age.

The amateur golfer, after completing 36 holes, achieved the feat at 7 under 136 in two days, tied with 22-year-old Sampson Zheng and 21-year-old Jackson Buchanan. Following his performance, per Golfweek, the Nashville native revealed to the USGA, “I was told the U.S. Am is like one level down from the U.S. Open.”

Recalling his gameplay, he mentioned how amazing the score feels to him personally. Appreciating everyone around him, Brown thanked everyone for their major support. He also talked about feeling highly confident in his game and practice after having done well at such a prestigious level of competition.

Surprisingly, Monday, August 14th, 2023, had been a tough day for the young golfer on the greens. He ended his day with a 1-over 72 and stayed 1-over until five holes on Tuesday. It was the next seven holes that changed the stature of the game for the player. Displaying excellent execution of skills, he scored four birdies and an eagle in these seven holes.

While Rhonda became the first player in women’s basketball history to register a phenomenal three-pointer, her son recorded the youngest co-medalist title. In fact, he had to battle through a round of six bogeys and an outcome of 1 over par. But, fate had it decided when Brown opened on Tuesday. Cruising the seventh hole, he conceded 5 under par and eventually went on to deliver an eagle on the eighth hole. This resulted in a beautiful sequence of eagle-birdie-birdie finishes.

Consequently, this has allowed the young athlete to ruse his way to the sixth berth on the AJGA rankings. From here, he will hope to optimize his form and make more marks in the history of the game.
