The Open Championship‘s final round is currently underway, and golfers are working hard to climb to the top of the scoreboard. Among them all, one currently stands above the rest: PGA Tour star Brian Harman. With his exceptional skills and hard work, the world No. 26 has outshone the entire field at Hoylake.

Harman has overcome many obstacles to get to the top of the sport and the current leaderboard. However, as it turns out, he would have never been a golfer had it not been for his father. In fact, before switching to the sport, the golf pro had his eye on another sport as a career!

Currently chasing to win the Open, Harman, like any other individual, had a dream as a child to pursue his passion. To his astonishment, he entirely changed his perspective as he grew and transitioned into the golf discipline, and for that, he credits his father. As for his passion, that was none other than ‘The Great American Game,’ baseball!

Recently, the PGA Tour Official account took to Twitter to broadcast the 36-year-old golfer’s honest confession from back in 2011. They posted the video with the caption that reads, “Baseball was @HarmanBrian’s passion growing up. But after an honest conversation with his father, Harman pursued golf and never looked back.”

In the video, the two-time PGA Tour Winner disclosed that he always wanted to play baseball. However, when he was 14, his father had a word with him and convinced him that if he wanted to become a professional athlete, he had to choose golf over baseball. What was the reason for this? Well, as per Harman Sr., it was because Brian “wasn’t near big enough” to make it as a pro baseball star!

To further help him pursue his dream of being a pro athlete, he practiced on the course that his parents had built around their house when he was a mere toddler. And therein began Harman’s journey to stardom. The golf pro explained that he took his dad’s advice seriously and gave his all to golf. “I really put all my eggs in the golf basket,” he stated. “[I] started working really hard on it and just kind of got lucky.”

Will Harman win the 2023 Open Championship?

For the 2022–2023 season, Harman has played 19 matches on the PGA Tour so far. However, he was only able to finish in the top 10 at three events. However, none of that may matter if the golf pro goes on to win the Open Championship in the next few hours! And the fact that he has a healthy lead certainly makes the odds look in his favor.

Despite starting his Saturday round off with two bogeys, the golf pro finished at a total of 12 under par with a 5-stroke lead over Cam Young. And now in the fourth round, he’s playing his heart out, trying to maintain his lead. And perhaps he just might!
