Golf, like any other sport, has a high number of injured athletes. The unfortunate part of that, though, is that the fans have no source of information about the injuries. Until the players themselves go on record and confirm what is wrong with them, there is no source of injury reporting in the sport. Recently, PGA star Xander Schauffele withdrew from the pro-am of an event and brought to light the flawed system of injury updates to the fans.

The world rank 6 had a remarkable season last year, winning three events on the tour. He also secured a top-10 place in four other events during the season. The American golfer hasn’t played at the same level this season, though, and recently even pulled out of the pro-am of this year’s first event.

Why did Xander Schauffele withdraw from the event?

Schauffele was a no-show at this week’s pro-am event for the entry Tournament of Champions. Adam Schupak, a writer for ‘Golfweek’ tweeted that he had withdrawn from the year’s first tour event was “hoping to be able to play when the bell rings on Thursday.” But there was no information as to why he had pulled out.

With the announcement, fans were intrigued as to why the golf pro had withdrawn from the event. While many rumors floated around, one thing was certain: there was no credible information. Stephen Hennessey, Golf Digest’s managing editor, also noticed the flawed system.

He tweeted, “All we know right now is he WD’d from the pro-am. He’s obviously battling something. But further illustrates our need for an injury report in golf.” Like him, many fans recognize the need for an injury report in the sport to keep the public informed and help them assess whether or not the golfers will be able to make it to the game. But do you see that happening anytime soon?

What were Schauffele’s chances of winning the event?

As per Golf News Net, the 2017 Touch Championship winner was one of the favorites to lift the trophy on Sunday. He was one of only three players at the Sentry Tournament this week who had competed in the event for the last five years, alongside Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm. The experience gave him a good advantage over the rest of the field.

The only drawback was Schauffele’s performance this season. Despite having a splendid 3-win season last year, this season, the golf pro had only played in two events. Although he placed in the top 10 in both events, fans worry that he might be out of form.
