On the second last match day of the regular season of TGL, Bay Golf Club suited up against the Los Angeles Golf Club. The former was unbeaten in the tournament, coasting to wins with ease. On the other hand, Los Angeles GC needed to beat Shane Lowry and Co. to claim the first seed.

Sahith Theegala came up clutch for the LAGC, who were trailing 2-3 at the end of the triples section of play. Theegala beat Wyndham Clark in both of his singles head-to-head, giving his team a vital 5-3 victory and allowing them to clinch the first seed, setting up a playoff date with the New York Golf Club. Post the match, the Bay Golf Club sat down to discuss the scheduling and the current busy schedule overall for the golfers. Irish golfer Shane Lowry and his Bay Golf Club teammate Wyndham Clark had some thoughts about that.

The Irish golfer is settled in Florida with his wife Wendy Honner and two of their kids. The fact that right now, the PGA Tour is in its East Coast swing has been beneficial for Lowry. TGL takes place in the SoFi center at Palm Beach State College, Florida, mere minutes from Lowry’s house. This allows Lowry to be at home instead of in a hotel or a rented apartment. “Yeah, it’s nice. It’s nice to not have to pack a bag and fly and do all that and stay in a hotel or a rental. It’s nice to have your own stuff,” explained Lowry.

Lowry has been heavily involved in the golfing world over the last few days. Firstly, he took part in the Cognizant classic, where he finished an impressive T11 with a score of 13 under par, six strokes behind Joe Highsmith, the winner. “I enjoyed Cognizant last week. I played pretty good at times. I had a really busy week, and it’s kind of going into a pretty busy week this week, as well. But this is what we look for and this is what we love.”

It is also going to be a heavy few days for the Irish golfer. The 2019 Open Championship winner is looking to build some momentum before the major at the Augusta National. He will be involved in the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players Championship, happening in consecutive weeks. Post that, the TGL playoffs start. And before you know it, the Masters would’ve crept up to you. But the Irish golfer knows that the schedule is part of the game. “That is why we do it. Masters only around the corner, obviously we’ve got Bay Hill this week, then the PLAYERS, then the Playoffs here. It’s a nice run of events and it’s nice to be involved in this,” added Lowry.

Wyndham Clark, who was listening to the conversation, was annoyed, stating “I’m jealous.”. Why was he jealous, though? The ease of travel, Lowry has. Clark, who lives in Arizona, has been travelling back and forth with no proper rest, something Shane Lowry feels is not ideal. “Wyndham has been back and forth to Phoenix a lot, so I don’t envy him,” quipped Lowry at the expense of his teammate.

What’s your perspective on:

Does Shane Lowry's home advantage give him an unfair edge over his TGL competitors?

Have an interesting take?

Clark stays in Scottsdale, Arizona with his girlfriend Alicia Bogdanski. This has meant that his schedule has been pretty hectic, especially with his TGL commitments. Clark is the only Bay Golf Club player to have played in all the matches so far, making his schedule very tight. And it is showing in the results on the other side.

The American golfer is yet to register a top 10 finish this season, having played in five events. He even finished a disappointing T73 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, where he was returning as the defending champion. Clark’s best finishes came at the Sentry, where he finished T15 and the WM Phoenix Open, where he finished T16. The latter takes place in Arizona, while the former was at the beginning of the season before the TGL commitments crept into his schedule. Makes you wonder, right? Is the schedule weighing on Clark?

The three-time PGA Tour winner would need to sort out the schedule and travel issues soon, though, because the much-anticipated playoffs are coming and if Lowry and Co. need to win it all, Clark will have to deliver.

Wyndham Clark and co. vs the Atlanta Drive

The Los Angeles Golf Club took away the first seed from the Bay Golf Club, which means that they will play against the New York Golf Club in the playoffs. The Bay GC will take on Atlanta Drive GC on either March 17 or March 18. During the regular matchup, the San Francisco-based team was triumphant against the Drive with a score of 6-5.

The close victory happened in the absence of Shane Lowry, who was replaced by Ludvig Aberg. The Bay GC were initially dominant, running to a 3-0 lead, but the Atlanta Drive did not give up, with Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay and Lucas Glover fighting hard to claw back.

They finally equalized it to 5-5, but Wyndham Clark had the last laugh, as he beat Patrick Cantlay in Hole 13 to claim the important point that led to victory. The close-fought match would be fresh in the minds of both teams as they lock horns again in the playoffs. Do you think the Bay Golf Club can be triumphant yet again against Justin Thomas and the Atlanta Drive?
