One can’t expect an easy tournament since there are so many top names gracing the event. However, the following is the power rankings of the top-5 contenders who have the potential to go all the way.

5. Hideki Matsuyama, the 31st-ranked golfer in the world, is in fifth place in this list. With 17 professional titles under his name, the Japanese golfer is one of the names to watch out for. Despite missing cuts in each of his previous three Wyndham starts, he can’t be taken lightly. He is familiar with the Sedgefield course and that familiarity may just work in his favor this time.

4. World No. 30 Shane Lowry is up next at No.4. He has six professional victories, with the Open Championship victory in 2019 ranking as his best. Surprisingly, the Irishman failed to make the cut at the Royal Liverpool this time around. But aside from that, he finished in the top 20 in five of his previous seven Wyndham starts. In two of his most recent three appearances at Wyndham, he made the cut and his best result came in 2017 when he took seventh place.

3. Let’s now move to World No. 27, Sungjae Im. 25-year-old young golfer from South Korea was Player of the Year on the 2018 Web.com Tour. He also won the title of PGA Tour Rookie of the Year for 2018–19. He claimed his first PGA Tour victory at The Honda Classic, March 2020. He unfortunately didn’t make the cut in the 3M Open last week. But he has to return to his form at some point and Wyndham could very well be that event where he turns it around.

2. Keep moving to World Number 26, Justin Thomas, second in the list. A two-time PGA Championship winner, he has seventeen professional wins to his name. But this year, the magic is somehow lost. Both the Open Championship and the 3M Open saw him fail at making the cut. His FedEx Cup points were affected by this. The 2017 FedEx Cup Champion is presently out of the playoffs and most certainly won’t be playing for the United States at the Ryder Cup. So Wyndham is going to be his last opportunity of the year and he would look to make the most of it.1. At last we have World No. 20 Sam Burns, number one in the power rankings list. He is the highest-ranked player in the tournament. The six professional title winner has had an inconsistent year so far. He has won only one championship at the WGC-Dell Match Play. And his sole top-10 finish since April was a T6 at the Charles Schwab Challenge. He did, however, manage a respectable T13 in his lone 2020 Wyndham Championship appearance because of his strong putting abilities. He would look to go even better this time. The fact that the competition provides FedEx Cup points makes it unique. This competition is a fantastic chance for golfers who wish to increase their chances of making the FedEx Cup playoffs. The other players who will definitely make the competition more interesting are Akshay Bhatia, Si Woo Kim and Adam Scott. It may be noted the defending champion Tom Kim won’t participate this year due to injury.

It’s a par 70 course with total yardage standing at 7,030 yards. It’s a relatively small property where there is little scope for big shots, so approach shots here will be very important. It can be said that they eventually will decide as to who will take the cake.
