June 6, 2023, marked a landmark day in golf history. The PGA Tour and the DP World Tour decided to merge with LIV Golf to form a different entity altogether, a deal worth around $3 billion. The resolution was intended to unify the game of golf and make it one, but it left fans with many questions about the merger and the impact it will have on everything, especially the trailblazer, the TGL League.

The TGL was co-founded by arguably two of the greatest golfers the world has witnessed, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, in August 2022. The league was made to work in collaboration with the PGA Tour, and with the merger abounding, fans have rightly questioned its future. And now they have an answer for it too, thanks to Serena Williams‘ husband, Alexis Ohanian, who recently got involved with the league.

Ever since the PGA Tour announced its amalgamation with Saudi Arabia’s PIF, there has been chatter about the potential changes in the Tour’s upcoming projects, especially the TGL league. But now, Ohanian, a tech entrepreneur and investor, who recently bought the TGL’s first ever team, has come forward and shared what impact the merger is going to have on the league.

The Reddit co-founder made an appearance on Sports Centre, wherein he was asked if the merger would have any plausible effect on the TGL league. Almost immediately Ohanian replied, “Right now, no changes… We were excited to partner with the PGA Tour and still are.”

The TGL team marks Ohanian’s second team that he owns in the sports world, after Angel City FC. And amid the reassurance that the league’s future was secure, the tech investor also spoke about how excited he and Williams were to see how their investment in the TGL was going to pan out.
