After breaking up with tennis superstar, Caroline Wozniacki, in May 2014, the golfer was in the news for a long time. As per sources, the two started dating in 2011 and even had plans to marry each other very soon. But things took a U-turn when the golf ace was hit by a sudden realization of not being ready for marriage.

“The problem is mine. The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realize that I wasn’t ready for all that marriage entails,” he announced only a few days before his scheduled wedding with Wozniacki. While it was a shock to his girlfriend along with all their combined fans, the golfer chose to stick to his decision.

Notably, McIlroy was heavily scrutinized by the golf world for his unexpected move. But little did he know that he would meet the love of his life only a year after his breakup. It was during the 2012 Ryder Cup when McIlroy met Erica Stoll. And it took them 5 years before they finally said their vows in 2017. Stoll has been by the golfer’s side ever since they got married and has been his biggest supporter. Hailing from New York, the avid tennis player has a degree in marketing and graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Other than being an extremely special partner for McIlroy, Stoll also holds great importance in the eyes of golf fans. The reason? She shares her birthday with golf legend, Arnold Palmer – on September 10. And that makes her all the more special for the Irish professional!

Fans might not be aware of the fact that there was a time when Stoll used to work with the PGA of America. And believe it or not, that is exactly what she wanted to do as soon as she stepped out of college. She served as the office manager and the manager of championship volunteer operations during her time. Well, that is how she met McIlroy in 2012 while working as a PGA transport official. Moreover, she even helped the golfer with a police escort to the course after McIlroy overslept and nearly missed his tee time at Medinah, Illinois.
