Serena Williams and husband Alexis Ohanian purchase first team in Tiger Woods-backed golf league
Last year, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, along with sports executive Michael McCauley, launched their brand-new company, TMRW Sports. However, what enthralled fans the most was the revelation of a new golfing league under the venture called the TGL. Since then, golf fans have been awaiting new details about the league with bated breath.
A welcome announcement came just days ago when TGL revealed its first-ever team, the Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC). Tennis legends Serena and Venus Williams and Serena’s husband, Alexis Ohanian, will serve as the owners of LAGC. “Los Angeles is the perfect home for our TGL team. This city embodies the intersection of sports, technology, and entertainment, making it an ideal backdrop for the innovation and excitement we aim to bring to the world of golf and its fans,” shared the Reddit creator in a statement.
The announcement has led many to wonder whether the likes of Stephen Curry and Lewis Hamilton will soon follow suit. After all, these players, along with big names like Justin Timberlake, Josh Allen, and Andy Murray, also invested in the TGL last year.

Two of the greatest athletes ever, Curry and Woods, have always shared an amazing camaraderie. Back in 2021, the NBA great even talked about how a pep talk from the golfer helped his career. So, it should not come as any surprise if the 35-year-old, who signed the NBA’s first $200 million contract in 2017, announces a new team down the road. If he does take the plunge, fans will be able to witness an unlikely but exciting Serena Williams-Steph Curry rivalry.
Justin Timberlake, who reportedly has a net worth of $250 million, can come on board as well. In fact, the Social Network star is among the select celebrities who have invested in sports teams. Back in 2012, Timberlake became a minority stakeholder in Memphis Grizzlies. He had reportedly put in $5 million via his investment group, giving him a 2.84 percent stake in the team!
