Back in 2011, a power couple stole the sports world spotlight: Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki. Each had booming careers and a thriving personal life together. But alas! Their time together was short-lived, as they split up in 2014, with mere days left for their wedding. And nearly 3 years after their traumatic ending, the couple was once again in the news. Why? Because the tennis great had just described her ideal partner, and it was far from McIlroy!
Caroline Wozniacki gets candid about her perfect man
It’s been nearly a decade since the tennis star and the golf pro parted ways. The athletic power couple had begun dating in 2011, and two years later McIlroy popped the question. All seemed to be going well until May 2014, when the Irishman announced that they had split up, just days before the wedding!

Three years after that messy public split, the tennis legend sat down with Graham Bensinger for an interview. Amid discussing her break-up with the 4-time major winner, the former tennis pro also described to the host her ideal man. And boy, one couldn’t help but compare her boxes to the PGA Tour star.
Like most individuals, morality was quite high on Wozniacki’s list while looking for a partner, but she also looked for excitement. “I look for someone who’s honest,” she stated. “That’s the most important thing; who’s fun to be around, doesn’t take himself too seriously; I would like a taller guy so I can wear my heels.” Hearing her checklist pointed to just one thing for all the fans: McIlroy didn’t fit it!

Rory McIlroy: Not Wozniacki’s ideal man
The former tennis pro’s criteria of height and seriousness were some boxes that McIlroy certainly didn’t tick off. In fact, being only 5′ 8.9″, he was shorter than Wozniacki! Moreover, the golf pro could probably be classified as quite serious; he did, after all, break things off with her via a phone call just days before their wedding. Many would certainly call that taking himself “too seriously.”
So the big question is whether Wozniacki amended her ideal guy criteria after the two broke up, or whether McIlroy’s charm made her forget to check those boxes altogether. Of course, none of it matters now considering how each has moved on with their lives and found their own ideal mates. But one can’t help but wonder what came first: the messy split or the checklist?
