As the countdown to the major golf tournaments begins, excitement is filling the air for both fans and players. And why not? Majors are the biggest opportunity for golfers, especially LIV golf players, as they do not receive any world-ranking points from LIV events. This ultimately makes Majors one of the most crucial for players like Bryson Dechambeau, Brooks Koepka, and Jon Rahm, among many.
Talking about Jon Rahm, the Spanish golfer garnered significant attention last year, not only for his impressive swinging skills but also for his recent career moves. The 30-year-old made a huge switch to LIV Golf Club in 2024, after his impressive season on the PGA Tour. The Major championship winner won the Sentry, the American Express, and the Genesis Invitational in 2023, ending the season with 4 titles.
After switching to LIV, as well, Rahm secured 2 titles; however, as stated by prominent LIV golf critic Eamon Lynch, “Those don’t count for anything.” The reason? Last year, Greg Norma announced LIV Golf’s withdrawal from its world-ranking points (OWGR), leaving players like Rahm with lower rankings.

Despite winning the LIV Golf Chicago and LIV Golf UK by JCB in 2024, Rahm currently ranks 31st. Lynch emphasized this point during his conversation with Damon Hack on Golf Today. While discussing Rahm’s prospects in this year’s Majors, Hack expressed doubts, saying, “I’m not sure that the schedule that he’s played is going to lend him anyway to be Major championship tough and Major championship ready,” referring to his recent debut news at the DP World Tour in Europe.
To this Lynch replied, “Well, he did show some encouraging signs after the fall when he had to show up in Europe right after the birth of his child.” He continued that it was to “kind of meet the obligations to be necessary considered for the Ryder Cup this year, and he had a bunch of top ten finishes in some lower-level European Tour events.” And honestly, one cannot defend the expert!

Eamon Lynch also highlighted the emotional toll of Rahm’s 2024 Olympics miss. “I think he was wounded by that collapse in Paris,” Lynch said, highlighting his close 4-stroke miss from his Paris win. He emphasized that Rahm urgently needs a strong season this time to rectify his game and improve his OWGR ranking. “The guy needs a big year,” Lynch stressed, citing Rahm’s disappointing exits from events like the PGA Championship and DP World Tour Championship.
Where will Jon Rahm tee up next?
Spanish professional golfer Jon Rahm has already started his 2025 event. He made his debut at the DP World Tour’s Dubai Desert Classic on the 13th of January. This tournament is set to take place till January 16 at the Emirates Golf Club Majlis Course in Dubai.

This event is happening at the Riyadh Golf Club, and fans can catch all the action live on the LIV Golf + app, with tee-off scheduled for 1:15 A.M. (EST). Up next he will be also playing at the 2025 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.
