Cameron Smith vs Phil Mickelson: An intriguing battle
A lot is in store at the team event in Miami to play for this weekend. On the basis of the season-long points table, the four top-ranked teams, which include the 4 Aces, the Crushers, the Fireballs, and the Singer, have all been given a day off. They will directly contest the semi-finals of the event, while the other 8 teams battle it out for a spot in the last four.

Among those teams are the HY Flyers GC and the Punch GC. The two teams are ranked eighth and eleventh respectively in the twelve-team competition and face off in the Eliminator. The focus firmly remains on the match-up between their captains – Flyers’ Mickelson and Punch’s Cam Smith.
While Mickelson has been playing on the circuit before Smith entered the arena, it is the Australian golfer who triumphs on the basis of individual points. A majority of his 57 points have come after his debut victory at the LIV event in Chicago last month.
Cameron Smith has his say on facing Mickelson
However, Mickelson reigns on the form factor – he has better finishes than Smith ever since the 2022 Open Championship winner won in Chicago. In the pre-match press conference ahead of the titanic clash, Smith was asked whether he was looking forward to playing against Mickelson.
“Yeah, I mean, it’s not going to be a gimme match,” the 29-year-old said. “Phil is still playing some pretty good golf. I think he’s probably beat me the last couple of weeks. Yeah, so I’m looking forward to it.”

Furthermore, fans have been reacting to the Smith vs Mickelson match-up. Many have declared it a must-watch game for all, but some have bemoaned the LIV Golf Series and its Saudi connections. Here’s a selection of those tweets.
I don't think you have a grasp for how unimportant this match is

Mouthwatering, how?
Would be shocked if it goes past 13 holes

I don't think so. It may have been when Phil was under 35 years old but sorry now he is just an angry old man. Not sure who other than maybe Dustin could give Cam a run for his money.

A senior tour player and a reigning major champion? Not really, might as well have Vijay vs Rory? I mean really.

Love Cam but this is obviously a marketing ploy by LIV Golf to try to make Phil relevant again since he is the “face” of LIV Golf. Knowing he’s failed miserably to everyone’s expectations, let’s put on a match with the most recent Major winner. 😂😂

What seems to be lost on many is that the quality of the golf doesn’t matter to many. In a different setting, yes, I’d want to watch. With LIV I have absolutely no interest. I understand it will be appealing, must watch to some, possibly many. But the pro LIV folks are vastly

It amazes me how many golf fans will not watch this or make fun of it because they “had” to pick a side. The commissioners et al should be the only people concerned. Players & fans across the board (and golf journalists too) are winners.
