The future is truly global. Tracing back to all the recent decisions happening in the golf world, the same is true of the holistic sport. But in the opinions of many important golf world entities, the PGA Tour has been largely centered around the United States for years, making it difficult for the game to expand out of American borders and thrive to its fullest extent.
Adding his name to the ongoing list of critiques of the Tour’s largely limiting concentration on the United States over the years was Keith Pelley. The chief executive of the European Tour made sure to address the need for an impending unification in the game of golf and supported the merger, and talked about Jon Rahm‘s $566 million defection.
Pelley mentioned the Spaniard’s move to LIV Golf and conveyed his opinion on the otherwise highly critiqued move made by the legend. The key position holder expressed his empathy for the recently defected star and extended his respect for this decision made by Rahm, keeping in mind the concerns of his family. The soon-to-stand-down chief executive said, “Jon is a great champion, and I respect the decision that he made for his family.”

As the current European Tour chief executive attested to this convergence as being in the right direction, he also made sure to express his golf views finally going in the “right direction.”

Pelley also conveyed his concerns about the long waiting time for the merger, saying that it would cause him a great deal of disappointment if a positive decision to unify the golf world is not reached. He added, “If the game didn’t unify, I would be quite disappointed. So I was overjoyed with what transpired in June, and that was the right direction.”
Upon hinting that the world of golf is finally moving in the right direction, however, when it comes to the next step, Pelley thinks that it is the second step. To reach this highly anticipated next step, the golf world will have to first achieve the goal of unification. “What that means in terms of what the product looks like down the road, that’s the second step,” said Pelley.

His staunch support of a more globalized nature of the game taking shape outside the USA perfectly embarks upon the ongoing flood of world golf ideas in the golf fraternity. All in all, according to Pelley, the Tour is finally taking the right direction. However, the next step is what only time and actualization of this utopia into reality can dictate.
