One can’t help but mention the prize pool and the winner’s cut while playing in a tournament. But the same ceases to be the case for the golfers as they often forget about it in the heat of the play. And that is what Jon Rahm did as he put up a phenomenal performance on the scoreboard on Friday.
Following in his Spanish pro’s footsteps was Scottie Scheffler, who currently occupies 3rd position in the rankings. Although the pro golfer is ahead of Rahm by two strokes, he had a slightly varying response when asked about the money aspect of the game, leaving many surprised.

The FedEx Cup has been giving a hefty sum to the winner of the tournament along with the trophy. The total purse for the event remains the same as last year with a $75 million bonus pool while the winner takes home a cut of $18 million. While money talks at such events, Scheffler was seemingly at ease with it.
In a recent press conference, the 6X PGA Tour Winner was quizzed on his take regarding the minute difference in prize money between two top 10 positions. Scheffler responded by saying he didn’t know the difference since he played golf for a completely different reason.
Continuing his reply, he said, “I’m very grateful to play golf for money, but that’s not my motivation. It’s as simple as that,” as he expressed his love of the game over any monetary benefits.
It makes sense when the players talk about how the money aspect is the last thing on their minds when on the course. Moreover, they would not be worried about the money lost, in case of a loss, but the title that they couldn’t claim because of it. And Rahm had a similar response to the same question albeit in an aggravated manner!
Jon Rahm shares his frustration
In his presser, the 28-year-old was asked about whether he had the monetary aspect of the game in his mind as he started off in his career. Jon was quick to reply as he talked about how the golfers are not thinking about how a missed putt is going to cost them money-wise but “they’re trying to finish as high as possible.”
The Spanish golfer went ahead to say, “It’s one of my pet peeves when they make this tournament all about money because I think it takes away from it,” he said as he expressed his annoyance with the same.
