Alright, golf fans, with a stacked 132-player field, we’re heading into the sixth event of the PGA Tour season—the 2025 WM Phoenix Open, which is scheduled from Feb 6–9 at TPC Scottsdale. With the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the PGA Tour has finally started to see some real traction with big names like Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy showing up in the mix. But, yeah, for the coming weekend, there have been some major withdrawals. Viktor Hovland, World No. 2 Xander Schauffele, and Ludvig Åberg are skipping this one.

Does that put a damper on things? Not at all. The WM Phoenix Open is all about its electric energy, wild crowds, and of course, that infamous 16th hole—the rowdiest spot in golf. Plus, we still have plenty of star power in the mix, and with $9.2 million on the line, you can bet the competition will be fierce.

So, who can take home the trophy this time? Let’s see.

5. Tom Kim

Tied for 65th at the Sony Open, missed the cut at the American Express, and most recently at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, he finished T7. You see, Kim’s 2025 season has been quite a rollercoaster, but you can’t deny the progress. And that’s the reason the three-time PGA Tour winner is on our list.

Sure, his 2024 season was winless, and he only had one top-10 finish—but let’s not forget, he only teed it up in three events. Last year at the WM Phoenix Open, he was right in the mix, finishing T17 at 10 under par.

4. Nick Taylor

You can’t talk about the 2025 WM Phoenix Open without mentioning Nick Taylor—last year’s champion who’s back to defend his title. And let’s just say, he’s coming in hot. Fresh off his win at the Sony Open in Hawaii, where he carded an impressive 65 in the final round to finish 16 under par. The five-time PGA Tour winner is full of confidence and energy, ready to fight tooth and nail to keep that trophy. It’ll be interesting to see if he can repeat history and secure another victory here.

3. Justin Thomas

Justin Thomas is back at it, and he’s got something to prove. After playing in three events so far this season, the victory still hasn’t materialized. But don’t count him out just yet—this former major champion is more than capable of breaking his near-three-year winless drought, and he’s hoping the WM Phoenix Open might just be the place to do it.

He came close at the American Express, finishing just one shot behind the winner with a solid 66, 23 under par. Not bad at all, right? He’s been consistent, finishing T26 at the Sentry and T48 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. But we all know Thomas isn’t just giving up anytime soon. He has skills, and he has motivation, so basically nothing can stop him from getting back to the winner’s circle this time.

2. Hideki Matsuyama

You would be lying if you said you don’t recall his epic eagle shot at the Sentry. He went on to win the season opener with a stunning 65, finishing 35 under par. Yes, that’s indeed impressive. While he hasn’t snagged a win since, Matsuyama’s still been putting up decent results, finishing T16 at the Sony Open, T32 at the Farmers Insurance Open, and T48 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Now, as he heads into the WM Phoenix Open, the 11-time PGA Tour winner might just be ready to recapture that Sentry magic. If he brings the same fire and skill to this event, who knows—the World No.5 could very well be holding the trophy again by Sunday. It’s all there for him.

1. Scottie Scheffler

This name is the staple of every list, given he shows up. After taking a short break following surgery, the World No. 1 finally made his season debut at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, finishing tied for 9th. Now, Scheffler is back and ready to remind everyone why he’s at the top of the game.

And in case you have any second thoughts about him being a potential winner, remember that he won this event in 2023. Last year he was tied at no.3 position, which is again impressive. So, if you find him lifting the trophy again this year, don’t be too surprised. He’s definitely one to watch.
