When Sergio Garcia was denied the opportunity to play in the Ryder Cup, many thought this would cost Team Europe a lot. The reason behind this speculation was Garcia’s amazing career record in the biennial event. With a record of 25-13-7, Garcia is the most dominant name in the Cup.

After tying up with LIV Golf, he didn’t know that his decision would cost him one of the finest opportunities: playing in the Ryder Cup. However, things can change over time. In 2025, Garcia is in line to take over as captain of the European squad. And this fellow Spaniard is in full support of Garcia’s possible position on the team.

The 2017 Masters winner, Garcia, has accumulated more Ryder Cup points than any other player. This year would have seen the continuation of his legacy, but unfortunately, not being a member of the DP World Tour anymore, he just simply couldn’t take part in that.

Even though the 43-year-old golfer made a last-minute effort to be in the squad, his efforts went in vain. And in an ironic turn of events, as Tiger Woods is being considered as the US team’s future captain, Garcia, along with current captain Luke Donald, is one of the two front-runners for the captaincy position in 2025.

And for Spanish golfer Adri Arnaus, Garcia is the right choice for the team. According to Arnaus, these fallen Ryder Cup legends should be given a chance once again. “Sergio is definitely one of them. If he’s not playing, then he should definitely be Ryder Cup captain at some point, and so 2025 is an opportunity,” said the 28-year-old golfer. “I would love all these people that have been so important for Europe and the Ryder Cup to still be in the picture.”

Garcia must be hoping to hold the esteemed position at the next event. Things have started to look up for him on other fronts too, like the following one.

The most lucrative golf league at the moment is LIV Golf. However, there is one disadvantage that all LIV golfers are currently experiencing: a lack of OWGR. Many golfers have previously expressed concerns about this and signed an open letter last September.

But now Peter Dawson, the chairman of the OWGR board, has stated that LIV’s ranking points are currently being taken into consideration. Dawson said, “We’re coming close to a conclusion on it, and that’s all I can say.” The official rankings would give more substantiality to LIV Golf and allow golfers a chance to move up the world rankings and play in some prestigious events.

The next Ryder Cup will be hosted at the Black Course at Farmingdale’s Bethpage State Park, New York, one of the toughest courses in the country. If Woods leads the US team and Garcia leads the opposition, it will be a match-up for the ages.
