Golf, more often than not, is considered a retirement sport. Many athletes from other games, in fact, take up this game as a leisure activity. However, it appears that the narrative is rapidly changing; especially with the stats put forth by the PGA Tour Commissioner during his recent press conference at East Lake Golf Club.

Interestingly, these age-old conceptions have been refuted in the most modern fashion, per Jay Monahan. Additionally, he addressed how this has allowed the league to build a legacy involving Tiger Woods and his non-traditional TGL. As a result, he strengthened his $15 billion vision for the tour’s future.

The recent press conference attended by Jay Monahan surrounded multiple topics related to the PGA Tour. A specific amount of emphasis was laid on the viewership the league has received along with the audience it caters to. Monahan seemed quite clear concerning all details. Rather straightforwardly, the PGA Tour Commissioner highlighted ESPN+ to be the live broadcaster for the tour.

Further, he mentioned the staggering amount of 25 million subscribers they currently have. Shattering the traditional notion, he explained, “60 percent of those subscribers are under the age of 35.” The focus remained to emphasize the varied audience the American tour caters to.

The 53-year-old also was quick to proudly mention the fact that the PGA Tour has been “the most watched live sports content on ESPN+.” Admirably, this began from the Sentry back in January to the days-old BMW Championship. The PGA Tour commissioner reiterated it as yet another testimony of the involvement of their fans.

Besides the broadcasting platforms, he also added about the league’s social media presence. Boasting their 14 million followers, he revealed them to be averaging 31 years of age. Adding to his statement’s proof, he talked about the extremely famous Netflix series of the Tour called Full Swing.

The fourth PGA Tour Commissioner divulged the next season of the series being filmed currently. Foregrounding the viewership, he disclosed there to be some pretty “compelling content” that makes his point of view even more valuable. Hence, it is these staggering numbers that have nourished his $15 billion dream for the league to achieve.

High-achiever PGA Tour aims for big numbers as Tiger Woods ventures an eminent TGL presence

Tiger Woods and TGL, this season particularly, have time and again made the headlines. Whether it was concerning the updates regarding the virtual setting, players involved, or the big cash sponsorship deals. Now, as the league prepares to capture more and more attention, Jay Monahan recalled how it was a dream — a concept — and has now turned into a technology-infused reality.

Mentioning this, the PGA Tour Commissioner’s aim was quite clear; to announce to everyone the big plans the league has for its upcoming season. Hence, he said, “It’s important to note from a strength standpoint for 2024, we have $10 billion in committed sponsorship revenue, $5 billion in media rights revenue committed, both through 2030”.

These staggering figures pointed toward a promising journey with a determined front from the Tour’s side. Additionally, he mentioned how numerous event companies have come forward to increase the event purses and, hence, the quality of the tournaments. This Monahan believed was “remarkable”.

Further, for him, this vision for the 2024 season wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the venture side. Referring to this, he divulged about PGA Tour SUPERSTORES and their partner, Arthur Blank. After a successful 2023 season, the PGA Tour is set to embark on a record year for the next installment.
