The launch of TGL is only a couple of weeks away! Tiger Woods & Rory McIlroy’s next-gen golf venture is about to begin soon. The league is being heavily promoted these days across various channels and fans are excited to see what it has to offer come January 7, 2025.
Many professionals and insiders have already shared glimpses from the simulation course with fans already drooling over the moving greens apart from all the other amazing things. We have also seen a few players already tee off onto the humongous simulator screen showing off the amazing display and intriguing scoreboard.
While it may seem that things are moving ahead quite smoothly for TGL, an insider believes that the venue is not as well prepared as fans are anticipating. The person in question is James Colgan, one of the hosts of the Drop Zone – Golf Podcast and a reporter at Golf.com.

Colgan was discussing various aspects of TGL along with his fellow hosts before he brought up his experience of visiting SoFi Center to check out the venue for the tournament. That’s when he mentioned “I was shocked by how little had been built in this arena that is just 3 weeks away from launch,” suggesting that the indoor golf area is not yet built enough to be ready for launch in a few weeks. He further added, “The full competitive area is still fully done, but they’re not done drywalling parts of the arena. They certainly haven’t painted any of it. And pieces of the entryway area like the stairs up into the stands… The stands didn’t even look fully built,” as he elaborated that audience seating areas were still partially dissembled.
Reiterating how the launch is just about 15 days away, James also said, “I asked Mike McCarley, the head of the TGL about this. He used to be involved with NBC’s Olympics coverages and he’s seen that kind of stuff before. And he laughed it off (at Colgan’s concerns),” suggesting that the CEO of TMRW Sports was not worried about the slow development. The host mentioned how Mike said, “I used to be shocked at how little was done when we would show up at the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. We would ultimately get it out. It would be done,” as he was confident that the arena would be ready before the launch.
Colgan said that he was still worried about the development despite Mike’s cool demeanor before sharing, “I’ve seen arenas that were not open to the public that were far more done than this one, which is supposed to be hosting a tournament in like two weeks.”

Perhaps James’ concerns are justified, but then again, he is not an expert in building arenas and designing venues, unlike Mike McCarley. However, the podcast host is not the first person to raise concerns about Tiger Woods & Rory McIlroy‘s TGL. Let’s see who else has not shown confidence about the project in the past.

TGL player unsure about Tiger Woods’s project
A few days ago, New York Golf Club pro, Rickie Fowler had also raised concerns about TGL. Speaking to the media after the Grand Thornton Invitational 2024, he said that he was not sure how Tiger Woods & Rory McIlroy’s league would perform in terms of rating. Fowler stated, “I’m looking forward to it. In a way we don’t fully know what to expect until it really gets going.”
While it may not be about the development of the project, having one of your own players doubt the success of the tournament raised a lot of concerns among the fans. Will the product be able to live up to the hype created by the media and the players? We will find out in time.
