Haters gonna hate, but Jason Day just proved them all wrong. Thoughts?

After taking the fashion risk by changing to Malbon Golf, Australian professional golfer Jason Day received a lot of flak from the public. The new outfit choices of the PGA Tour star elicited a flurry of reactions on the internet, making him a new fashion icon for some and a target for others. His new style, with such elements as pleated baggy pants and relaxed fits, has attracted much attention from the public. The golfer has also been as active on social media as the critics, with the same energy and enthusiasm as their critics.

The PGA Tour’s Instagram post captured the essence of the moment: “Breaking the internet, @JasonDayOfficial reacts to the public’s opinion on his new @MalbonGolf fits.” The post shows how lightheartedly Day reacted to the backlash he received. The criticism reached its pinnacle when fans started associating his outfits with everything from jail suits to Halloween costumes. Day, however, seems to be enjoying all of this with a lot of ease and flexibility.

In the same Instagram video, he was going through the comments section and laughing at how creative the fans were. The golfer laughed at the comparisons, including one in which one of his fans told him he looked like he had just escaped from Shawshank. Day’s reaction? He accepted the humor, saying that the fans’ creativity was amusing to him.

Day’s designs are laid-back, which is quite different from what Nike, his former sponsor, used to provide. One of his outfits was similar to the kind of pants that Tiger Woods used to wear, and reflecting on this, one comment showed Tiger Woods’s Big Dog meme with the caption, “Tiger meeting Jason Day’s pant guy,” and it had the golfer laughing.

Critics say that Malbon Golf’s clothing is informal and thus unsuitable for professional golf courses, especially during major championships, but that is what the brand stands for; new-age golf clothing. The 36-year-old golfer finds the comments funny and creative, but what has been the most-criticized outfit for Jason Day? There have been a few.

Outfits that Jason Day has faced the most criticism from fans

The golfer has come under a lot of criticism due to his choice of pants and oversized clothing during tournaments. It particularly scaled up during the Masters, where Day’s outfit went against the dress code of Augusta National Golf Club. One day, he wore a rather outrageous sweater vest, which the authorities asked him to take off, and he did. Fans called his pants pantaloons.

Have an interesting take?

At the Wells Fargo Championship, his baggy, crème-colored pants and striped shirt raised many eyebrows, and his dental hygienist look at the PGA Championship divided opinions. The all-green outfit with white accessories was the outfit that the brand said was a mix of streetwear and golf fashion, but fans did not like it. At the Open as well, he wore an outfit that looked more suitable for a mountain expedition, and fans called the choice out by saying that it is hard to golf in such an outfit.
