The 2023 US Open arrives following the announcement of the billion-dollar PGA Tour-LIV Golf merger. While the previous two major championships had a whiff of rivalry in them, the LACC-hosted event could be a pot of mixed feelings around the competing golfers.
However, one of the key aspects of the merger is the continuity of both leagues, which has added to the uncertainty regarding the future. Due to differences between the tours, major championships turned into premier events for a match-up between PGA Tour players and their LIV Golf counterparts. While only two have been hosted so far, both have possessed a mix of hostility surrounding the golfers, which has added another layer to the growing discontentment.
One of those has been the use of LIV Golf logos at major championships, an idea that has been extended by CEO Greg Norman himself. However, the initial tournaments witnessed diverse feelings toward the idea, with sponsored players sporting their own gear.
While there are discussions for another round of LIV Golf apparel parade, the silence around the PGA Tour is deafening. It has left many arguing the need for a PGA Tour logo on players’ sleeves, which isn’t mandatory by the rules.

As mentioned previously, the LIV golfers have been endorsing their leagues over the past major championships. The move has been especially prevalent in sponsors-bereft players, with team captains adorning their LIV team kits.
However, others have chosen to be diplomatic in the situation. One of the most impressive players in the majors this season, Brooks Koepka was among the LIV players to wear his Nike-sponsored kit rather than LIV golf gear at the Masters earlier this year.
But will he and others show their LIV Golf allegiance at the US Open this week? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
