With Keegan Bradley out, is it finally time for Tiger Woods to take the Presidents Cup helm?

2025 Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley made a playing spot for himself at the Presidents Cup. He is part of the captain’s pick for the team headed to Montreal. As a result, Jim Furyk dropped him from being the vice-captain leading the American team so that he could put his entire focus on the game.

“His back was against the wall, he grinded it out and he came up with a great moment at the end,” said the captain, impressed after his BMW Championship wins. With Keegan Bradley out of the spot, the vice-captain position is yet to be filled. But the question is, who will make the perfect replacement for the 38-year-old golfing professional?

Tiger Woods might not be a part of the field in Montreal this season, but the 48-year-old American pro has appeared nine times at the Presidents Cup. He has a record of 27.5 points (27-15-1), which is the second-best in the country. Additionally, he boasts a record for winning the most matches in the series as well.

While Phil Mickelson has bagged a total of 26 victories, Mr. T’s feat of strategy earned him the trophy for the 27th time back in 2019. This helped him surpass Lefty and become the most prestigious player on the Presidents Cup field. Thus, it is pretty much safe to say that Tiger Woods will indeed be a perfect fit for the role of vice-captain for the US team.

The captain at the Presidents Cup gets to have five members in his leadership group. Furyk already has Kevin Kisner, Stewart Cink, and Justin Leonard. When Bradley was not removed, he had confirmed reaching out to Woods for the fifth position.

“I’ll reach out to Tiger. I think we all kind of expected that he was going to be named Ryder Cup captain, and when that didn’t happen, I know he’s got his plate full with the PGA Tour and working on our board, which seems to be a lot of work at the moment,” said Furyk. However, upon the recent move, Furyk’s statement has completely changed.

Right after confirming that Keegan Bradley will be solely focusing on the game, Jim Furyk also added that he won’t be giving any hint about who he has in mind to fill the remaining spot in his team. However, he did mention two things—it could be someone who has previous captain experience or someone who narrowly missed the cut on a captain’s pick.

Well, according to his recent interviews and speculations, Justin Thomas sure is someone who missed out on the captain’s pick. He even stated how difficult it was to omit him from the team. Furyk had also stated that he knew the 31-year-old better than anyone else, which could turn out to be an effective partnership. And about Woods, well, he had already been a playing captain for the team during the previous International Presidents Cup in Australia in 2019. He was also a part of the assistant team in 2017.
