LIV Golf has been one of the most controversial circuits in the golfing world since its initiation. However, players who defected from the PGA Tour to the 54-hole circuit love their newfound freedom of gameplay. The Saudi-backed circuit has been signing many deals, and so have the 4-person teams.

Various endorsements are rolling in and the teams are gaining more recognition. The Smash GC spearheaded by Brooks Koepka has two players with individual sponsorships from Nike, and a team-wide endorsement deal was on the way. However, there appears to be a slight hiccup.

Smash GC is one of the top-ranked teams in LIV Golf, sporting brilliant players Brooks Koepka, Matthew Wolff, Jason Kokrak, and Chase Koepka. The team was vying for a billion-dollar deal with Nike; the company that also sponsors the captain and his teammate Matt Wolff. However, the deal appears to have fallen through and now Smash GC has announced their new apparel deal with Bald Head Blues on their official Twitter account.

The interesting aspect is that neither Koepka nor Matt Wolff were tagged in the post. NUCLR GOLF shared the news on their account, which does raise a lot of questions.

LIV GOLF’s Smash GC has signed an apparel deal with @BaldHeadBlues, an Island lifestyle brand based out of North Carolina. Despite rumors, it appears that the Billion dollar Nike sponsorship did not come to fruition. Worth noting that Brooks Koepka and Matt Wolff were not tagged on the launch tweet – each of whom have deals with Nike,” they wrote.

The Smash GC Captain and LIV Golf loyalist is already at risk of losing his Ryder Cup auto spot since his position dropped to 4th after the Open Championship. His Ryder Cup points stand at 9421.15 after Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark, and Brian Harman. With that in mind, losing the billion-dollar deal with Nike for the team comes with an asterisk for his LIV Golf franchise.

Will Koepka play in the Ryder Cup?

Brooks Koepka’s dream for the Ryder Cup auto spot is already dangling by a thread, and now with the deal with Nike falling through, it seems there isn’t much to celebrate for him as an individual. He may have to qualify for the event now that his position for the auto spot is already at risk.

Given that he is a LIV golfer, there is still the question of whether or not he will get a captain’s pick as well at the Ryder Cup if at all he makes it into the event. There is a lot on the line for the former world no. 1 at the moment.
