LIV Golf is heading for the first time to the Australian continent, and the excitement is running high. While the CEO Greg Norman would lead the group of Aussies to welcome the LIV stars to his country, world number six Cameron Smith also has been over the moon to play professional golf in his home country. Ahead of the LIV Golf Adelaide, Smith made a bold claim that may undermine other events of the Saudi-funded Tour.
The upcoming event will mark the fourth tournament of LIV Golf’s 2023 season. Though Cam Smith has yet to make a mark on the lucrative Tour, he does seem confident to ensure his maiden LIV win at the Grange Golf Club. As he looks to propel himself for the $4 million worth victory, the Aussie has some words for the first event in Down Under.
What is Cameron Smith’s bold claim?

Smith arrived in Adelaide earlier today after competing at the Masters. The Aussie golfer’s four-over-par helped him secure the T-34 position. While the 2022 Open Championship failed to cause a spark at Augusta National, he might ensure high-quality golf at the upcoming LIV Golf Adelaide.

Soon after landing at the Adelaide Airport, Cameron Smith was surrounded by reporters seeking to ask the golfer about the first LIV event in Australia. “It’s massive,” said the Aussie. He further added how his fellow LIV stars have also been excited about the tournament. Smith said, “Really looking forward to the crowds.”
However, the 29-year-old then made a bold claim by stating, “It’s probably gonna be the biggest event so far on the calendar”. Moreover, Cameron Smith also adds how he sees LIV Golf get ‘stronger and stronger.’ He ends by saying that the upcoming Adelaide event will be a ‘benchmark’ for the lucrative Tour. A few days ago, Smith urged for more golf events to be held in the Australian sub-continent.
While the Aussie may be excited to play in his home country by praising the upcoming event before the commencement, Smith will have to undergo many more challenges to secure a win. Though he had an incredible season last year, his form hasn’t been the same since his move to LIV Golf. With Cam Smith eyeing a victory at the Grange Golf Club, when was the Australian’s last win in the professional circuit?

The 29-year-old surprised many with his incredible form last season. Smith won three PGA Tour events, including the Open Championship. The series of great results also saw him at the number-two spot in the OWGR. Nonetheless, the Aussie golfer decided to join LIV Golf for a reported fee of $100 million.
Cam Smith has only managed to secure a single win following his jump. The victory came back in November of last year at the Fortinet Australia PGA Championship. He scored an impressive -14 in the co-sanctioned European Tour event. Moreover, similar to the upcoming LIV Golf event, the Australian PGA tournament was also held Down Under.

However, Smith’s last event win came in his home city Brisbane, nearly 1000 miles away from Adelaide. As the golfer seeks to add another piece of silverware to his trophy cabinet, he will have to outclass his fellow LIV defectors. With $4 million up for grabs, can Cam Smith finally secure his maiden LIV win?
