He won the Houston Open this weekend, enticing everyone to keep an eye on him. However, apart from his big PGA Tour win in Houston, Finau also joined a rare list of achieved golfers.

The 33-year-old only had a single win before the 2021-22 PGA Tour season since his Tour debut in 2007. However, there has been a change in fortune in Finau’s professional career, as he managed to claim 4 wins in the span of the past 15 months. Though the constant victories themselves put him on the elite list of golfers, his standout performance in the latest PGA Tour adds him to another list.

What record did Tony Finau make?

The Utah-born golfer had always been questioned about whether or not he can finish the final round. Nonetheless, he shut all his critics down in the Houston Open, after comfortably claiming the victory with four fewer strokes than the runner-up Tyson Alexander.

Apart from being at the top of the leaderboard, Tony Finau also topped the list of other statistics. He completed the event with the best driving accuracy and green hits. Driving accuracy refers to the percentage of time a tee shot comes to rest in the fairway.

However, according to Sean Martin of PGATOUR.com, Finau joined 6 other golfers in the past two decades to lead both of these categories. The feat only gets much elevated when we happen to know that Tony Finau hasn’t been ranked above the 129 ranks when it comes to driving accuracy.

The constant amount of wins on and off the course for Finau depicts that it’s his time to shine on the Tour. He has already bagged 3 wins in the past 7 starts. With the commencement of the 2022-23 PGA Tour season, fans can expect a historical run from the world number 12.
