McIlroy has attracted a lot of audiences ever since his arrival on the PGA Tour. He has then gone on to win 4 Majors in the past decade. Though it’s been nearly eight years since he last won a Major, McIlroy still shows glimpses of his Major-winning days very frequently.

Ahead of the 150th anniversary of The Open, the 33-year-old gave an exclusive interview with CBS in which he gave a detailed response to several intriguing questions. One of them consisted of whether McIlroy preferred the British Major or the one at Augusta.

McIlroy replied, “Right now, the Masters, probably. I’d like to win both. I’d like to just win The Open at St. Andrews and then win the Masters eight months after that. If you could just go back to back, that would be nice. Right now, where I am in my career, I’d have to say the Masters.”

As per the plan of the Irishman, McIlroy hopes to win the 150th Open and then go on to win the Masters in April 2023. However, it is pretty evident why McIlroy is leaning more towards a Masters win since he hasn’t gotten the opportunity to wear the green blazer at Augusta.

Earlier this year, after an exquisite final round, McIlroy came close to winning his first Masters. However, his 8 under par wasn’t enough for him and gave Scottie Scheffler a taste of his first Major win.

Both the Majors are an integral part of golf. The history, royalty, and heritage of both the Majors have helped the sport to evolve and reach greater heights. Moreover, this year’s Open Championship will be held at St. Andrews which is also known as the “Home of Golf”.
