The Hero World Challenge is in full swing. The first two days saw an amazing display of golf as the 20 golfers battled it out on the greens. The event has also gained a lot of traction as it has also been the comeback ground for the 82-time PGA Tour winner, Tiger Woods. He ended his 7-month hiatus and is currently gearing up for the third round.

After the 36 holes played, Woods stands at solo 15th on the leaderboard 10 strokes away from the leading player, Scottie Scheffler. Though the non-official PGA Tour event observes a no-cut tournament, would Woods have survived it and played in the final if the cut had persisted?

The Hero World Challenge is an unofficial PGA Tour event that displays a $4.5 million prize purse and 30.0999 Official World Golf Ranking points. It differs from all the other events in which cuts are made. The PGA Tour events usually go through a cut after 36 holes or two rounds.

The cuts are made to reduce the player’s field’s size and maintain those golfers who have played better and are closer to winning it in the final round. The usual field that the event has is 156 or 144. After the cut is made, only the top 60 and ties qualify for rounds three and four.

Comparably, the Hero World Challenge has a small player field, hence it avoids the cut made after 36 holes. Though if it had been part of the format, Woods would have missed the cut and found himself out at 15th as the field gets halved. Fortunately, Woods does not have to go through the missed-cut dilemma in his comeback event.

Till now two rounds at Albany Golf Course have taken place, and Woods has been trying to find his footing and play better. In the first round, he was 3 over the par with 5 bogeys and one double bogey. However, he stabilized himself in the second round, shot fewer bogeys than the last, and ended up 2 under 72. What are the chances of Woods’ resurgence at the event?
