Will the rain and thunderstorms ruin the Genesis Scottish Open, or add an exciting twist?

The PGA Tour and the weather have been in a constant tussle since the start of the 2024 season. The worst nightmare, you ask? It was at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am when the event had to be cut short to only 54 holes. Then, the inclement weather disrupted the Cognizant Classic and, again, the WM Phoenix Open.

So, it has been a constant battle that the PGA Tour has tried to win but has failed to. Will this follow on the final day of the Genesis Scottish Open too? As per the weather reports, the opening hours of the final round might be disrupted. The final day will be a little cloudy, with scattered showers expected at the Renaissance Club. Fortunately, there will be no thunderstorms.

But there will certainly be a chance of 30% precipitation with winds blowing from NW to ESE at a speed of 8 to 12 mph. As the day progresses, there will be fewer chances of rain. However, by the afternoon, there may be an isolated shower, drenching the pros. Overall, the Renaissance Club will be softened in the final round of the Genesis Scottish Open, but not so much so that it will be ruined.

It will surely help the PGA Tour and DP World Tour pros to take advantage of the weather and card lower scores for a better chance at victory. As reported, it has not been easy for the PGA Tour in the 2024 season, as not only the weather has disrupted its events, but simultaneously, a sharp decline in its viewership has also haunted the American League.

The PGA Tour’s declining viewership in the 2024 season

Through the initial 10 events in the 2024 season, the three national partners of the PGA Tour saw a 16% decline in the final two rounds of the events. Many PGA Tour events saw a sharp decline, including the Farmer Insurance Open, when the French pro, Matthieu Pavon, made history and won. Despite the historical factor, only 1.59 million watched the final round, which was 40% lower than the 2023 edition.

Additionally, a few days later, at the WM Phoenix Open, the PGA Tour was hit back with another drawback, including inclement weather that had delayed the rounds. As the Sports Journal Business reported, from 3.67 million watching the People’s Open in 2023, only 2.37 million tuned in this season.

The 35% drop was shocking, as it started a streak that was seen even at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship. The two noted a 35% and 15% drop, respectively, in viewership, despite Scottie Scheffler’s scintillating victories. Even the fans were frustrated by the constant weather delays, but as of late, the weather has not disturbed the PGA Tour events as such. And seeing the Scottish Open’s weather reports may cause a little trouble for the American Circuit which may in turn affect the viewership of the Genesis Scottish Open.

Will Mother Nature spare the Scottish Open? It remains to be seen.
