LIV Golf announced on Tuesday the 2022 Open Championship winner, Cameron Smith, and five other players as their new additions to the Invitational Series. Like all the others who did the same, the new LIV players got the same response from the PGA Tour. And the golf world has a difference in opinion about it!
The fourth event of the Invitational begins on September 2, Friday, at the International Golf Club in Boston. And according to the LIV Golf announcement, Smith, Joaquin Niemann, Harold Varner III, Cameron Tringale, Australia’s Marc Leishman, and Anirban Lahiri would tee up in Boston as their debut LIV event.

By joining the Saudi-backed league, the Australian golfer and the other five professionals would have earned millions of money like their colleagues. However, they will be suspended from the PGA Tour as per the new Tour regulations. And according to the latest reports, they will miss playing for the Presidents Cup!
Fans reaction to the players becoming ineligible for the upcoming Presidents Cup
The Presidents Cup is one of the prestigious international events in which the International team and Team USA play against each other. As the world’s no. 2 golfer, Smith indeed had a chance at playing in the event for International Team. Notably, he has already played the event the last time it was conducted, in 2019.

Smith and the others will lose the chance of being part of the team event once they tee off in Boston on Friday. Dan Rapaport of Barstool Sports shared the news through his Twitter account.
Just confirmed that as soon as they hit their tee shots on Friday, Cameron Smith, Marc Leishman, Joaquin Niemann and Anirban Lahiri will be ineligible for the Presidents Cup.
Smith and Leish had said they still wanna play. That’s not gonna happen.

LIV Golf has been facing controversies since its inception. Therefore, many golf fans neither support it, nor the players involved with it. The new players, naturally, also got the same response from them.
Smith will soon be forgotten with all the great young players coming on to the PGA tour. And his game will deteriorate with not playing competitive golf.

This is what gets me. They make a decision to move to a new Tour for big bucks but then want everything else. Didn’t they realise there’d be consequences. I don’t begrudge a single player moving to LIV but they need to open their eyes to what is going on and the implications

For all the “PGA Tour is so petty not letting these guys play the Prez Cup”, well it is run and paid for by the PGA Tour so take a minute. Understand now?

Once you go to the dark side there’s no turning back. These guys made their bed and now they working for the royal crime family. Despite it all, I’m ready for The President’s Cup!

Good!! Serves them right.

All top players should be eligible for the majors, President and Ryder Cups. We the fans want to see the best players competing and representing their countries.

PGA is hurting that competition and the game by not allowing the best I. The world to compete. What a shame!
— Dominic Shows (@DomShows) September 1, 2022
The International players should boycott the Presidents Cup until their team is run by the Asian Tour, Japan Golf Tour, PGA Tour of Aus and Sunshine Tour, just like Europe runs its own team

PGA just needs to cry uncle. Monahan needs to quit playing strong man and negotiate a peace deal where the top guys can play both tours if they so desire.

Sad. Let them play. Why the hate and thin skin? Why the immaturity and adolescence? This is what’s ruining the game.
— Randy (@bureaumanrandy) September 1, 2022
Most comments were against the LIV players for joining the league. However, the other half of the fans thought the LIV players should not be banned from such events, which showed in the comments.
