The final hearing lasted ten minutes for a saga that unfolded over ten days. The Louisville Metro Police Department has dropped the four charges against Scottie Scheffler. It is expected to put an end to the legal drama that started on May 17. That is unless the reigning Masters champion decides to sue the arresting officer.
The LMPD officer’s failure to turn on the bodycam and lack of believable evidence spurred fans to claim Scheffler must slap charges against the arresting officer, Bryan Gillis. The fact that Gillis has faced disciplinary actions previously, only added fuel to the fire. Where does Scottie Scheffler stand amid this?

The world no. 1 has maintained a steady stance that the entire fiasco was the result of a ‘big misunderstanding.’ Even at the PGA Championship press conference, the 27-year-old didn’t betray any feelings of acrimony or bitterness. Scheffler’s words after LMPD’s latest move carried the same tone and tenor as of May 17.
In the official statement, Scottie Scheffler wrote, “As I stated before this was an unfortunate misunderstanding. I hold no ill will towards Officer Gillis. I wish to put the incident behind me and move on, and I hope he will do the same.” Notably, a new clip from that day shows that Scottie Scheffler wanted to talk to Gillis in the wake of his arrest. His request was, however, denied, presumably, because the officer was still treated by EMS.
Bryan Gillis later filed four charges against the 27-year-old, including a second-degree assault on a police officer. However, the absence of bodycam footage put LMPD in a tight spot. Gillis also faced coercive action for violating the bodycam policy. Scheffler, however, chose to look at the broader picture. “Police officers have a difficult job and I hold them in high regard. This was a severe miscommunication in a chaotic situation.”

Although Scheffler refused to detonate any bombs, his attorney spat fire while speaking to the media. Steve Romines has previously denied the charges that Scheffler dragged the officer. Despite the new footage, apparently contradicting his statement, Romines refused to back down.

In the newly circulated video, the two-time Major League champion can be seen talking to another police officer after the arrest. The world no. 1 didn’t counter when the officer said he dragged Bryan Gillis with his car. Rather, Scottie Scheffler accepted he was in panic and made a mistake by not stopping at Gillis’s order.
However, Romines, who represented Breonna Taylor’s boyfriend in the landmark case a few years ago, claimed the police officers were trying to manipulate Scheffler into agreeing to their narrative. “And that’s why you don’t talk to the police. Because they are going to try to put words in your mouth. And that’s exactly what they did,” Romines fired back at the question, alleging that the latest clip refutes his claim.
