With the conclusion of the RBC Canadian Open 2024 on 2nd June, Robert MacIntyre came out triumphant. The Scotsman got teary after his maiden PGA Tour victory. The impressive score of 6 under 64 in the first round which involved 6 birdies gave him a good start. He continued his under-par streak throughout the game in all the rounds with scores 66,66 and 68.

Overall, MacIntyre scored an impressive 16 under 264 including a total of 21 birdies, 1 eagle, and 7 bogeys. He managed to beat Ben Griffin by just a single stroke. In the post-presser, he discussed his dad’s role, Dougie Macintyre, in his massive win as a caddie and father.

When asked if his dad’s presence was beneficial for him during the rounds, Maclntyre replied positively by emphasizing the fact that every father wants his son to do the best: “he just wants me to do well because I’m his son, and there’s no angles to it, there’s nothing. It’s just shear fight for me.” He iterated the importance of his father’s presence on the greens as the one who taught him the game. “I just felt like the guy that’s properly taught me the game of golf I’m going to win a tournament with him on my bag and it’s so special.”

Other than sharing his special moment with his dad, Robert MacIntyre also highlighted the fact that although his dad wanted him to do well as they share the same name, the caddie role he played is going to be pretty lucrative. “He’s wanting me to do well just because I’m blood. There’s no — yeah, he’s going to get a nice paycheck out of it.” It seems like Dougie MacIntyre is going to get a nice cut out of the champion son’s winning amount of $1.692 million.

Surely, the Sctosman’s father played an important role by being the caddie for him in a time of urgency. When asked if he has found a caddie for the upcoming US Open, he responded positively but showed a bit of skepticism. Macintyre also talked about the issue he faced on the field, the one related to drones.

MacIntyre’s agitation with drones in the final round

Robert MacIntyre reflected that drones wouldn’t let him focus. The noise of the drones was testing his patience and making him lose it. “If it didn’t go away, I was going to start throwing my clubs at it. That’s how annoyed I was getting.”

After disrupting MacIntyre’s focus during the final round multiple times, he couldn’t take it any longer and he decided to discuss the issue with a ‘rules official’.” Rules official from the R & A was just beside us, and I brought her over, and I said, Look, this drone needs to get out of here. I’ve said it three times now. The drone is annoying me, the drone’s putting me off, it’s too close.”

Anyway, the drone issue couldn’t stop the Scotsman from becoming emerging victorious.
