Amidst the backdrop of fierce competition at the 2024 HSBC Women’s World Championship,. Jin Young Ko. The former golf No. 1 has her eyes set on yet another remarkable victory at the aforementioned event. What makes this win remarkable? Well, it would be her third consecutwin, win which would make her victory historic. But what would she do if she won gloriously? She has some exciting plans!
After a stellar six-under-66 in the third round, she was propelled into a tie for fifth. She humorously suggested she might buy a house in Singapore should she secure her third consecutive victory at this prestigious event.
“If I win tomorrow, yeah, I will buy a house in Singapore; maybe that could be a chance. But I heard it’s really expensive housing in Singapore; I don’t know yet,” said Ko in a post-round press conference. Ko’s bold statement underlines her confidence and deep affection for Singapore, where she has enjoyed remarkable success in the past few years.

When asked about how she would react if she won tomorrow and joined a short list of players who had won the same event three years in a row, she said she wasn’t thinking about that right now. “It’s a great honor if I do win tomorrow. But I don’t want to like make more pressure to give myself. Just enjoying with Singaporeans. After tomorrow, I’m back to Korea and it’s been seven weeks almost”.
Only six players have achieved this before, with only one of them, Inbee Park, being a woman. And with her also being Korean, this does hit a little too close to home for Ko. Will achieving this historic feat be easy for Ko?

Ko’s pursuit of a historic three-peat at the HSBC Women’s World Championship will not be an easy one. Why? Well, because the tournament’s leaderboard is tightly packed with formidable contenders.

Ayaka Furue of Japan has taken a commanding two-stroke lead after carding 68 and positioning herself at the top of the leaderboard. Hot on her heels are Hannah Green (currently at T2), Celine Boutier, and Andrea Lee (tied for T3), each with potential performances on day 4 that could threaten Ko’s housing dream.

Despite the stiff competition, Ko’s remarkable round of 7 birdies and 2 bogeys on Saturday brought her closer to achieve the accolade. The tournament has brought together a star-studded field, such as Lilia Vu, Brooke Henderson and Sarah Schmelzel all vying for the $1.8 million championship.
