The 2023 LIV Golf season saw a lot of drama. From Brooks Koepka’s team which saw a rift forming between them, to Bryson DeChambeau’s squad which saw itself becoming the best group on the circuit, the golf world saw a suspenseful second edition of the Saudi-backed league.
However, with the new strategic move employed by the PIF-funded circuit, the transfer window, a lot of golfers have found themselves in a peculiar situation. And, finding himself in a similar circumstance is one of the players from Crushers GC, none other than DeChambeau’s teammate!

During the course of the year, the Middle Eastern League placed its players on two different leaderboards, one for the team and the other for the players. And, many of the golfers, including the ‘Scientist’ and his teammate Anirban Lahiri, saw themselves finish inside the top 24 on the player’s standings, as part of the ‘Lock Zone’.
As per the new regulations put forward by the Saudi-backed circuit, the athletes who finished inside the top 24 are “guaranteed an opportunity” to play for the next edition set to take place in 2024. And those in the Lock Zone, “whose contracts are expiring,” are being offered another agreement for an extension by their team. Professionals including Peter Uihlein of Aces GC at T12, Lahiri of Crushers GC at 13th, Carlos Ortiz of Fireballs GC at T15, Richard Bland of Cleeks GC at 20th, and Scott Vincent of Iron Heads GC at T22, are a part of the group.
The Indian golfer, thus, finds himself in between two choices. He can either sign another deal to extend his contract with his old team or “decide not to accept the offer.” This would make him a “free agent,” allowing him to join another squad that has an open slot. However, that would not likely be the case since he has expressed his love for the team on numerous occasions.

And when it comes to the skipper, he would have a hard time letting go of the squadmate because of his amazing performance during the year. Moreover, Lahiri was instrumental in propelling the team to the 2023 Team Championship that took place in Miami.

Although the 36-year-old has not garnered any wins this year on the Middle Eastern circuit, he has placed a total of three times inside the top three finishing T2 at Adelaide and Bedminster. Moreover, his final round score of 7-under 65, including a birdie and an eagle, at the Team Championship event in Miami helped them claim the title of winners.
