Wife of Golf Legend and Former Masters Winner Proud of Her Husband Embracing His ‘New Role’

After switching to a new role, it is always uncertain how successfully a golfer will fit into it. What is crucial to their success is to have an open mind, a positive outlook, and to be a willing learner. Being a natural fit is also a factor that may have held true in this one-time Green Jacket winner’s case.

While six-time Master’s winner Jack Nicklaus has successfully ventured into entrepreneurship with his equipment line and partnerships with Terlato Wines and the Arizona Beverage company, there has been another success story with a Masters winner’s adaption to a new role after retirement.

2008 Masters champion’s new role gets praise from his better half

After walking away from professional golf, things have turned out really well for the 43-year-old. The 2008 Green Jacket winner replaced golf royalty in Sir Nick Faldo as CBS Sports’ lead golf analyst. He worked with Jim Nantz on the Masters broadcast for CBS Sports, receiving praise from his fellow broadcaster. Besides that, the golf world embraced his broadcasting skills. Adulation from the masses may have been a defining factor, but the South African former golfer received praise from his wife.

Carminita Immelman took to her Twitter handle and expressed how proud she feels of her husband, Trevor Immelman, in this new role that he has undertaken.

Trevor Immelman, who carved his name in Masters history with a three-stroke win over Tiger Woods, will always receive an invitation to the Masters as a player. His injuries resulted in him not being able to tee off as part of the field, but it is safe to say he has found a new calling. It is one that will see him serve the sport and vice versa. Given his comments from 2017, one can say it was a dream role.

Trevor Immelman felt an adrenaline rush in his first golf broadcast assignment

Trevor Immelman secured 11 professional wins on various tours. Two years after being named PGA Tour Rookie of the Year, he followed in the footsteps of Gary Player and became only the second South African golfer to win a Masters Tournament. Subsequently, injury troubles plagued his time on the greens and that was reflected in his performances. It was in 2017 that he received a try-out offer from Golf Channel.

The 2008 Masters winner told Golf Week, “I love the sport of golf so much, I was trying to think of ways that I could still stay involved and stay a big part of it, and fortunately, that’s when I got the opportunities to dip my toe in the water for TV. I thoroughly enjoyed it, I could feel the energy. At the tournament, I felt the excitement and the adrenaline rush of trying to find the right words to explain to the viewer what was going on with the action.”

After serving as Golf Channel’s main commentator, he joined CBS Sports in 2019. Trevor Immelman then went on to sign a new multi-year deal, which began in the 2023 season. He kickstarted his new deal with new duties alongside Jim Nantz in the 18 tower for the Farmers Insurance Open. However, 15 years after winning his Green Jacket, his run on that very golf course surely accelerated his stature and stand in the broadcasting business!
