In the days that followed, the golf legend underwent an ankle fusion surgery in New York to eliminate the pain. But with the next major championship in a few weeks’ time, fans have been asking the dreaded question – is it the end of the road for Tiger Woods?

Known for being outspoken during his days with Woods, Haney expressed his opinions regarding his former pupil’s concerns. “Why would Tiger retire? I mean, what’s the upside to retire?” he argued.

According to Haney, Woods’ retirement wouldn’t serve any good to him. “There’s certainly no financial upside. There’s no reason to say you’re retired,” he said.

Furthermore, Haney believed that Woods could return to the sport at whatever juncture, something which has been seen before in the world of the NBA and the NFL. “What would prevent you from coming back and unretiring? I mean, you know, players do it all the time. Michael Jordan did it. I mean, you know, and, oh, Tom Brady’s done it?” he said.

Furthermore, a retirement would also mean an end to Woods’ PIP money, something he has been a beneficiary of since it came into existence. “Why would he give up the PIP money [from] the PGA Tour? PIP money that they give out to Tiger Woods for being the most influential person in professional golf every year? Why would he?” Haney asked.
