The 15-time major winner has faced many setbacks, mostly in his personal life. As a public personality, his personal life is an open book for the world to see and analyze. One such incident in the past involved Woods and his girlfriend being sued for overserving an employee.

The curious case of an employee’s death

Nicholas Immesberger, an employee at The Woods Jupiter, died on Dec. 10, 2018. According to test results, the 24-years-old’s body contained an alcohol content of .256 at the time of his death.

Erica Herman, the general manager of the restaurant and Woods’ long-time girlfriend, had recruited Immesberger to work as a bartender. Reportedly, Woods and Herman knew the bartender personally and were aware of his problems with alcohol. Yet, the couple allegedly allowed him to be overserved alcohol after his shift ended.

Immesberger, after leaving The Woods Jupiter one fatal night, crashed his car in a one-car wreck in a trance of intoxication caused by the excessive alcohol that resulted in his death.

Notably, neither Woods nor Erica Herman were in any way connected to the incidents that led to his death. However, they were named defendants in the case since they knew the victim’s alcohol problem and still allowed alcohol to be served to him.

According to Florida law, the establishment that knows the person’s alcohol problem and still serves him alcohol will be responsible for any injury or damage that the person endures. Furthermore, the law also states that the accused doesn’t have to be physically present at the incident to become liable.

Are Tiger Woods and his girlfriend still defendants in the case?

According to his attorney, Tiger Woods is merely an investor in The Woods Jupiter restaurant and does not own it. Thus, six months after the accident, he got his lawsuit revoked.

Erica Herman, on the other hand, was voluntarily removed as the defendant from the lawsuit. After both Tiger Woods and his girlfriend’s names got cleared, only Woods Jupiter Inc. stood as the defendant of the case.
