The PGA Tour may be drawing big coverage numbers this year, but according to the fans, they still need to figure out their priorities. It started with the Genesis Invitational and followed into the Tour’s ongoing Zurich Classic event. However, the ‘favoritism’ issue of the signature event turned into a bizarre problem when, due to technical difficulties, the Tour broadcast the PGA Tour Champions instead of the ongoing Zurich Classic round. The problems didn’t end there. According to the latest updates from PGA TOUR Communications, fans can expect further delays in the gameplay.

According to the latest update from X, the TPC Louisiana event is facing another major issue, which has led to a second technical problem during the event. Yes, you read that right. We are officially seeing another April event, following the Chevron Championship, dealing with weather woes (and worse) in more than one round.

Considering the dangerous weather in the area, the final round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans was suspended on Sunday afternoon. Due to the inclement weather and lightning in the area, the suspension occurred at 3:42 PM (ET). The news hasn’t come without its fair share of warnings. Ahead of the round, the PGA Tour’s forecast had warned of potential pop-up showers and thunderstorms in the greater New Orleans area.

However, this weather issue caused problems in other areas as well, more specifically, television broadcasts (once again). But the Tour’s latest event is facing more than one technical difficulty. The final-round television coverage of the Zurich Classic has encountered power outage issues. Problems at TPC Louisiana made it nearly impossible to view a significant portion of the final round on Sunday.

While Golf Channel was scheduled to broadcast until 3 p.m. ET, it transitioned to PGA Tour Champions coverage 30 minutes earlier. When CBS began its coverage at 3 p.m., it featured Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry’s 2024 win, accompanied by a ticker at the bottom of the screen noting technical difficulties. Looks like the Tour will have to pull up a lot of tricks to deal with these major issues! But this isn’t the first weather-beaten PGA Tour event of the 2025 season.

What’s your perspective on:

Is the PGA Tour losing its touch with constant interruptions and delays frustrating loyal fans?

The PLAYERS Championship and the weather-beaten TPC Sawgrass

The PLAYERS Championship of this season saw almost similar issues during the Sunday final round. Keeping in mind the inclement weather, the National Weather Service issued a tornado watch at 8:21 AM (ET) for Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, which was in effect until 3 PM (ET) Sunday. This watch was triggered by “a broken line of severe storms with damaging winds of 50-70 mph and the possibility of isolated tornadoes as it moved across the region from west to east throughout the afternoon and exited into the Atlantic early that evening.” Given the stormy and dangerous weather, the PGA Tour announced a suspension.

As a result of the severe weather near the Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, officials suspended the final round of the 2025 Players Championship at 1:15 PM (ET) and scheduled it to resume at 5:15 PM (ET). However, the weather affected not only the course and the golfers but also the broadcast.

Given the forecast of inclement weather, officials modified the TV schedule for the final round of The Players Championship. Live coverage started at 10 AM (ET) on Golf Channel and Peacock, with NBC taking over the broadcast at noon. Peacock provided coverage from beginning to end. While it is impossible to control the weather during important (and exciting) Sunday matches, fans hope that the Tour does not face another series of broadcast issues in the coming time.
