It was an emotional maiden victory for Robert MacIntyre at the Hamilton Golf & Country Club. The 27-year-old prevailed over the RBC Canadian Open’s field and clinched the silverware to call it his maiden win. With his father on the bag, MacIntyre won by one stroke over Ben Griffin who was looking forward to his maiden victory too.

However, MacIntyre had been on a roll as he took the third-day lead and was 4 strokes ahead. Catching up to him looked hard as he shot five birdies on the final day and was 2 under 68. Evidently, the Oban native has bagged the million-dollar winner’s cut, but that’s not all the RBC Canadian Open rewarded its champion with!

Robert MacIntyre followed Matthieu Pavon’s path (winning the Farmers Insurance Open) and proved why he deserved the PGA Tour membership. After his incredible victory, MacIntyre took home the silver jug with a $1.692 million winner’s check from the prize purse. He was also entitled to the 500 FedExCup points and 43.79569 OWGR points.

Gaining the Official World Golf Ranking points, Bob’s rank propelled from 74th ranked to now the 40th ranked golfer. This jump secured MacIntyre’s place at the 2024 U.S. Open field as the top 60 golfers will be eligible after the Memorial Tournament ends. Courtesy of this victory, the 27-year-old is promised a seat at the next two signature events; Memorial Tournament by Workday and the Travelers Championship.

Moreover, his one-year exemption on the PGA Tour also got extended through 2026 as the Tour winner. Then he qualified for the 2025 Sentry, The PLAYERS Championship, the Masters (which he missed in 2024), and the PGA Championship. MacIntyre was already qualified for The Open, so he would be playing that as usual.

All in all, MacIntyre will enter his home with an increased bank balance, a better golfing career, and make him proud of a victory and making him accompanying. This victory had a lot of benefits, but for MacIntyre, it was all about chasing his dreams!

It was his 45th start on the PGA Tour and he might have expected it to end as it always does. Maybe a top 10 or worse outside the top 40s. But this time, things were different, everything from his mindset to his caddie set him up for success. After he carded the 1.5-foot putt and hugged his after, MacIntyre still didn’t believe he had won.

It has been his dream to win on the American circuit and he did just that. But it took time to reel it in. In an interview with CBS, Bob tried to explain what he was feeling at that moment. He, with tears in his eyes, said, “I’m speechless… This is just everything for me and my family… I can’t believe I’ve done it with him on the bag. I’m crying with joy but laughing because I didn’t think this was possible.”

It was possible and an eventual reality. MacIntyre will head home now to celebrate with his whole family. After that, he would chase a second win at the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio.
