Twice, Swedish national Ludvig Aberg rejected LIV Golf’s attempts to crack a deal with him—once when he was an amateur and the second time, as recently as a few months ago as he revealed in an interview. The rookie golfer’s confession proved how he considers the PGA Tour more competitive and thinks that staying with the PGA Tour was the right decision.

After attaining victories at the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour, it makes one curious about what would have occurred if the Swedish national had accepted the lucrative deal and moved forward with LIV Golf. Would he have the same chances as the PGA Tour provided?

Ludvig Aberg is the first graduate from the PGA Tour University to get his league membership. After making his debut in June, the rookie golfer won the Omega Masters on DPWT and the RSM Classic on the PGA Tour and set a record for his 6-month career. Looking at his career graph, the breakaway league approached the youngster.

Aberg rejected the offer and started his journey on the Tour but if he had not, his career would not have mirrored his new success. After playing multiple events on the PGA Tour this season, Aberg’s rank has moved up from the 1000s to the 32nd position on the OWGR rankings.

If the 1x PGA Tour winner had chosen LIV Golf, his rank would have dropped immensely as the PIF-backed league is not eligible for OWGR points. Moreover, Aberg made his Ryder Cup debut this year, and if he had gone to LIV Golf, there was no chance he could celebrate winning the patriotic battle, as LIV Golfers are also not eligible to participate in the biennial tournament.

Additionally, when it comes to playing the majors, most LIV Golf players are at risk of missing them because of their lower ranks resulting from the absence of OWGR points. If Aberg opted for LIV Golf for a lucrative deal, with no prior major wins, it would have it harder for Aberg to qualify for the majors. Although the PGA Tour and PIF merger was seemingly a solution for LIV golfers’ issues, the potential delay of the matter adds a layer of uncertainty to the whole situation. It is truly correct that Aberg feels he “did the right thing,” as he recently confessed in an interview.

The Swedish golfer gave an interview to SVT Sport and talked about Jon Rahm leaving and his decision to reject LIV Golf twice. The 24-year-old expressed his thoughts on Rahm’s departure. Though the Spaniard’s move did sadden the young golfer he nonetheless respected and acknowledged his decision. On account of his LIV Golf rejection, the 2023 RSM Classic winner explained that there were “a number of red flags” with LIV Golf.

Moreover, even though they offered “a lot of money,” he “could potentially burn a lot of bridges, and I wasn’t interested in that.” He also added that he is here to compete with the best players and be a part of history that can be possible only on the Tour.

When I look back, I am very confident in my decision. I will never chase money, what I do is compete. I did the right thing,” he said. With 2 victories and a 2-2-0 Ryder Cup record, it looks like Aberg’s decision to choose the PGA Tour instead of the LIV Golf bore a sweet result.
