The upcoming week for golf fans is going to be exceptionally exciting. Two co-sanctioned events, the Genesis Scottish Open, and the ISCO Championship, will be held during the same weekend, keeping the community glued to their chairs for a jam-packed session.
Adding a cherry on top is the fact that the final men’s Major of the season, The Open Championship, is scheduled for the week after these tournaments conclude. Golfers who have not yet secured a spot at the Major will have one last chance to qualify through these events, as the winners get in if they are not already part of the field. Here’s why both events are scheduled for the same weekend.
The Genesis Scottish Open is scheduled from July 11 to July 14 at North Berwick in Scotland, while the players in the ISCO Championship will head to the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky. Both events are co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour and are thus held together.

According to the calendar, ideally, there should be one DP World Tour event and one PGA Tour event each week. These moves are aimed at forming a strategic alliance between the two tours, which might help foster future collaborations. The schedule was first announced by Jay Monahan, the PGA Tour commissioner, and Keith Pelley, the CEO of the European Tour, in 2021. Pelley even stated, “It’s a first step. There is much more to come from this alliance.”
Well, the ISCO Championship and the Genesis Scottish Open were not the only championships scheduled to be held together. The shock is that the Tours had arranged another event to be held on the same weekend as the fourth men’s Major!

The Open Championship, held at the Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland, will take place from July 18 to July 21. This is the same weekend as the Barracuda Championship, which will be held at the Tahoe Mountain Club’s Old Greenwood in Truckee, California. Once again, golf fans will be split between Europe and the United States.
The Barracuda Championship is an alternate event, meaning it will have a smaller purse, resulting in less prize money and fewer points. While the purse of the Open Championship is $16.5 million, the purse of the Barracuda Championship is only $4 million. There is also a point difference of 450 (759,300) allocated to the winners. Thus, it will be played during the same weekend as the Major.
