He was indispensable for Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces GC back in 2023. Pat Perez was the highest-ranked LIV golfer among all the fourth-ranked men on the various teams in the second season of the Saudi-backed league. However, it appears he wasn’t able to replicate the same in the current edition of the circuit, leading many in the community to call for a change in the squad.

Now, as the PIF-funded circuit announced its first-ever mid-season transfer window, the teams can swap players with each other without changing the contracts of the professionals through June 9. Case in point: the presence of the Trading Window coupled with a sub-par performance by Perez truly paints a bleak picture for the LIV Golf pro.

Out of the seven starts he made in 2024, the pro only boasts a single top-15 finish, that too at T15, which he managed to place at the Las Vegas event. With a figure of 2.66, Perez secured the highest number of points from all the tournaments he participated in, with the exception of Jeddah (0.66).

That’s not all. The 48-year-old is currently placed at T49 on the overall leaderboard, all thanks to his disappointing gameplay in the Saudi-backed league. He had gone ahead to finish poorly with a T52 in Mayakoba and Singapore, a T22 in Jeddah, a T40 in Hong Kong, a T49 in Miami, and a T32 in Adelaide.

Such a not-so-amazing display of golf led to many fans pushing the 4Aces GC skipper to trade Pat Perez. Being in T10 on the overall leaderboard hasn’t helped either. Thus, the followers started dishing out comments like, “4 Aces need to trade Pat Perez” and “Pat P and Varner.. any team who will take them.”

This wasn’t the case with Perez in 2023. Although he found himself in the ‘Open Zone’, the professional was deemed a valuable teammate by the captain himself, who then went ahead to sign the ‘free agent’ back for the 2024 season.

The 3-time PGA Tour champ was able to place himself in the 28th position in the overall standings back in 2023, all thanks to the 47 points he raked in via his finishes. Being nothing short of an amazing teammate for the squad, he helped his team immensely by contributing 24 counting scores out of the 39 rounds he played in the year, with at least two counting scores each for 11 of the 13 regular events.

Perez’s best finishes back then came in Adelaide, Mayakoba, and London, where he finished T6, T7, and T7 again, respectively. His most important counting score came in the final round at Centurion Club, where he scored a vital 66, including four birdies, and was instrumental in beating Ripper GC by a stroke.

As a result, Johnson extended his hand to bring back the golfer. Unfortunately for the skipper, Perez was unable to keep on his promise: “I’m going to try just as hard next season, if not harder.” And now his fate is uncertain!
