Lilia Vu is currently living the dream of playing in the prestigious Solheim Cup. But there is something about her look that has left people wondering if she is sick again. 2023 has been a phenomenal year for the 25-year-old, who has secured three wins on the LPGA Tour, but at the same time, she has also been plagued by health issues.

And now, while she is participating in the Solheim Cup, many have noticed that she is wearing a pink medical patch on her wrist. This has attracted the attention of the golf world, leading them to speculate that Vu is sick once again and question whether that was the reason she sat on the sidelines Friday morning. But is that the case?

Lilia Vu started the year with her first win on the Tour by taking home the Honda LPGA Thailand in February. Then, in April, she claimed her first major at the Chevron Championship and earned massive recognition. But like many other athletes, Lilia Vu also couldn’t avoid the physical strain that comes with being a player.

While playing in the Mizuho Americas Open, she was stopped dead in her tracks by a “back injury scare”. After that, she stepped away from the competitions for three weeks. At Finca, Cortesin Vu is now wearing pink tape on her hands, which are worn by patients in hospitals. While there is no confirmation of it, based on her recent history this year, it is likely that the LPGA star is not at 100% and perhaps still recovering from certain health issues.

Although there has been no statement from the player’s side currently, she had earlier spoken about her issue. It’s been a whirlwind for me trying to manage everything. I feel like I’ve just been going nonstop on everything,” she stated candidly. “Kind of had a back injury scare at Mizuho, so I had to pull out, and I was just trying to get my body healthy for the next couple of weeks.”

On Friday, the first day of the event, Vu even sat out of the foursomes during the morning session. This further added to the speculation about her not being 100% fit. In the evening, however, she did take part in the fourball pairing up with Lexi Thompson. But alas, things did not go her way!

Vu turned professional in 2019 but earned her LPGA Tour card for 2022. Similar to many of her teammates, like Rose Zhang and Alisen Corpuz, 2023 marks Vu’s first appearance at the Solheim Cup. Excited as she was, the LPGA star had to meet disappointment on the first day alone when she was sidelined during the foursomes round of Friday morning.

However, hours later, she headed to the greens with Thompson, but the pair were not able to bring the American side the glory they wanted. In the afternoon session, the duo lost to Europe’s George Hall and Leona Maguire by one hole. On Saturday morning foursomes Vu found herself partnered with Jennifer Kupcho but they lost to Emily Pedersen and Spain’s Carlota Ciganda by 2 and 1 (2-point lead with one hole to spare). Then in the afternoon shift, Vu found herself by the side of Danielle Kang but again had to face defeat at the hands of  Linn Grant and Cignada by 2 and 1.

Now the Sunday singles remain, where she is put up against Madelene Sagstrom. Will Vu be able to score a win in the final round despite an assumed injury? We will soon find out.
