Jon Rahm‘s crowning achievement came in 2021 at Torrey Pines, where he secured his first major title, the US Open. Displaying remarkable composure and skills, the Spaniard birdied the final two holes to clinch the victory, finishing one stroke ahead of South African Louis Oosthuizen.  Now, he was set to play at the 2024 U.S. Open Championship at Pinehurst No.2. Alas! His preparations have taken a back seat due to a painful foot injury.

The former Masters champion recently WD from LIV Golf Houston, and has been seen wearing a flip-flop during a pre-presser, sparking curiosity and concern among fans. On Tuesday, June 11 Jon Rahm addressed a press conference at the Pinehurst Resort. He stated that the injury began with a lesion on the skin between his pinky toe and the adjacent toe.

This lesion became infected, causing significant pain and swelling. Rahm described the injury in detail, explaining that the pain was intense enough to require a numbing shot before his Saturday round at Houston. Unfortunately, the pain relief was short-lived, he found himself struggling again at the second hole.

Spaniard was seen limping on the greens when he drove the ball at par-3 hole seven. He further explained that the infection was particularly troubling, but it is now under control. Despite this, Rahm still experiences swelling and discomfort. His unusual footwear choice, a flip-flop paired with a regular shoe, is a strategic attempt to keep the affected area dry and aid in the healing process.

Rahm’s injury remains a significant concern in his play. Although he acknowledges that while the pain has lessened somewhat, it still poses a challenge. His participation in the tournament is somehow uncertain, and his ability to perform at his best in this situation is also a concern. But as he puts it, “Anytime I tee it up, I feel like I have a good chance.”
