More than the event itself, the screen has become a talking point about TGL. The Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s Brainchild Simulator League will start on January 7th, 2025, on ESPN, and all six teams are ready to take the tech-infused league’s challenge. The intrigue around TGL is only growing as new aspects of the simulator league come forth.
The screen is a crucial part of the Plam Beach SoFi Center, as the golfers will tee it up against it. The entire golf world, including Serena Williams’s husband, Alex Ohanian, LAGC’s co-owner, and 6-time PGA Tour winner Max Homa, have shown just why there is a buzz surrounding the screen. “I believe there is an opportunity to push the envelope for golf fans’ viewing experience,” said Homa. “TGL is another example of how we can appeal to younger sports fans and TGL’s progressive approach with its use of technology will further elevate how sports fans engage with golf. I love the concept of TGL helping to broaden the appeal of the game we love to a wider spectrum of sports fans. From the first time I heard about it, I knew it was for me.”
Basically, the screen is nearly 24x larger than the normal simulator screen; that’s why Homa and Ohanian looked tiny in front of it. The actual size of the screen is 53’x64′. Now that’s large. This screen will ensure that the golfers have better vision while playing the various customized holes of TGL and also that the fans can see it and enjoy it as proper golf. In front of the simulator screen, there will be the Screen Zone, which has three sites on the ground for teeing, a sand bunker site, and the rough.

Behind it is the Green Zone used for putting and short-game shots, which is the size of four basketball courts. In its entirety, from the screen to the Green Zone, the TGL playing area is 97 yards long x 50 yards wide, nearly the size of a football field. Ohanian’s way of showing the screen size was creative. He used himself as a scale to give a glimpse, “Alexis for scale. I’m holding a banana. @TGL ready for January.” Not just the team’s co-owner, but fans were equally impressed by this too.

If anyone doubted that TGL would be entertaining or not because it is a simulator game, just the scale of everything ensures that the fans get the full experience. And just as the screen size differs from usual simulator games, many other things are also way different at TGL.

Tiger Woods will not be taking chances at the pace of play
TGL might have all the top PGA Tour stars teeing up from 2025, but it does not follow the same rule as the American circuit. Whether you are Wyndham Clark or Brian Harman, slow pace of play would not be tolerated at TGL. So just like in basketball, TGL has introduced a shot clock. A referee will be at all times in the arena and ensure that all rules are followed.
If any golfer takes more than 40 seconds to take a shot, they will get a one-shot penalty. At TGL, at least the fans won’t complain about the game being boring or extending to hours. Another thing is that a team can take four timeouts in the entire match to discuss their strategy, which is not seen in traditional golf ever.

However, only two timeouts can be opted for in one session. The TGL matches will be 15 holes and team matches, with the first nine holes played as alternating shots and holes 10-15 divided among the team of three to be played as singles in the second session. It would be exciting to watch the out-of-the-box golf matches amidst the rise of conventional format. Will the fan actually love the concept? It remains to be seen.
