TGL finally announced their sixth and final team. Confirming all the rising speculation, the roster included Tiger Woods. The 47-year-old golfer will headline his home team, Jupiter Links GC. For the last few weeks, the million-dollar question has been: will Tiger Woods play in his own tournament? Now that we know the answer, another question comes to mind.

Why did Tiger Woods choose Jupiter Links GC? Why didn’t he team up with his friend from the other side of the Atlantic, Rory McIlroy, at Boston Common Golf? There are multiple reasons behind this.

Why did Tiger Woods pick Jupiter Links GC?

Let’s take the most obvious point out of the equation first. Jupiter, the golfing capital, is Tiger Woods’ hometown. Granted, he was born and brought up in California. But since becoming Tiger Woods from Eldrick Tont Woods, the 82-time PGA Tour winner has made the tiny little part of Florida his abode like countless other golfers.

TGL teams also represent the culture and tradition of the specific location. Who better embodies the golf culture of Jupiter than the former world No. 1 himself? No wonder Woods was excited about the prospect himself. “I expect Jupiter Links GC to showcase the golf culture of my hometown as we compete against the best players in the world,” the veteran golfer said in an official statement.

Jupiter Links GC also allowed him to add one more feather to his crown. If the PGA Tour holding a tournament on a Woods-designed course was a testament to his architectural genius, owning a team with David Blitzer surely evinces his business acumen. Yes, that’s right. Woods-led TGR Venture jointly owns the team with David Blitzer of Blackstone.

A Tiger Woods-led golf team is indeed a huge thing for Jupiter natives. Hopefully, it will promote the golf culture in the island town more vigorously. With that also comes the question: who else is a part of the team headed by the legend himself?

Who else will be on Woods’ side?

TGL includes a team-play format of six teams with four players each. Sadly, only Tiger Woods’ name was included in the Jupiter Links GC roaster. However, we believe the wait won’t be too long. The official announcement mentioned that in the coming weeks, the entire roaster will be revealed.

Tiger Woods has been MIA since bowing out of the Masters in April with an ankle injury. After going through surgery, his recent sightings indicate a grand return is imminent. At the risk of sounding paradoxical, since TGL is more of an indoor golf tournament, we can expect to see the 15x Major winner in full action on January 9, when TGL debuts on ESPN primetime.

His outings at the PNC Championship and Hero World Challenge are purely speculative at this point. But golf fans can surely hope to see him in the inaugural season of the tech-infused league on the virtual golf course next year.
