PGA Tour players at the Charles Schwab Challenge on Sunday prominently displayed red and black ribbons. This was a memorial to Grayson Murray, who departed from this life not too long ago. While playing on Sundays, Murray, the beloved golfer, would typically wear these colors on Sundays, inspired by his hometown Carolina Hurricanes.

His family requested that PGA Tour players and caddies wear red and black ribbons at the Charles Schwab Challenge final round after his terrible suicide death at the age of thirty. The Murray family released a heartfelt statement, and said, “We would like to thank the PGA Tour and the entire world of golf for the outpouring of support. Life wasn’t always easy for Grayson, and although he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully now.” This gesture was a sincere approach to honoring his memory and legacy, not just a reference to his favorite colors.

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan acknowledged the golfing community’s deep sorrow. “We were devastated to learn—and are heartbroken to share—that PGA TOUR player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words,” Monahan said. The PGA Tour family was devastated by the news and insisted on carrying on with the tournament at Murray’s family’s request since they thought he would have wanted it to.

The Charles Schwab Challenge was the last event that the golfer played in. He withdrew from the tournament on Friday evening, with just 2 holes remaining. The reason for WD was stated as “illness.” The affection and encouragement Grayson got were highlighted by Murray’s parents, Eric and Terry. “We have so many questions that have no answers. But one. Was Grayson loved? The answer is yes,” they stated. The golfing community honored Grayson with this heartfelt tribute of red and black ribbons, commemorating his influence both on and off the field. The Murray family also requested that everyone be empathetic to each other: “Please honor Grayson by being kind to one another. If that becomes his legacy, we could ask for nothing else.”

Grayson Murray had a significant career on the PGA Tour. In July 2017, he won his first PGA Tour event at the Barbasol Championship, and in January 2024, he won his second at the Sony Open in Hawaii. After going six years without a win, his triumph at the Sony Open represented a noteworthy comeback, demonstrating his talent and tenacity.

Murray had personal difficulties despite his achievements in his career. He publicly revealed his struggles with alcoholism, depression, and anxiety. Murray had talked a lot a lot about his path to recovery from addiction and mental illness. He had been clean for several months by January, so his second victory was even more special.
