Luke Kwon's brain surgery: A setback or a setup for an epic comeback in golf?

The 32-year-old has managed to turn a lot of heads! Luke Kwon managed to emerge victorious at the recently ended Creator Classic and clinched the title of champion at the inaugural event. However, little do his fans know that the golfer once had to undergo a procedure on his brain, all thanks to an incident on the golf course that took place a couple of years ago.

It was a Friday on September 23, 2022, as per a source from Monday Q Info, when he was playing an alumni golf tournament at the University of Oklahoma. The athlete got into a freak accident when he stuck his head out of the cart he was traveling in at the wrong time while on a narrow bridge and hit his head on its steel railing.

The hit sure left the then 30-year-old rattled and confused. But even so, he strived on and finished seven more holes of golf at the tournament to complete his round, which he would soon realize as not having a single memory of. Soon after he did so, Luke Kwon drove back to his hotel, which was around 40 minutes away from the course.

Although Kwon had been sporting a headache, he had decided against going to a hospital for any medical help until his girlfriend urged him to do so. When she saw how her texts didn’t help, she arrived at the hotel later that day and took him to the emergency room, which made all the difference. A CT scan revealed the golfer to have internal bleeding and the doctor diagnosed him with epidural hematoma. Had he waited 30-40 minutes more, the athlete would have surely died.

“I was like, ‘Why am I in this room?'” said Luke Kwon as he recounted waking up after undergoing emergency surgery to remove a portion of his skull, “‘Why am I so swollen? What happened?’ I was trying to just piece together everything at that point.” Anyhow, in the end, the medical staff was just surprised at how well the golfer was recovering. And he sure did turn his life around by enjoying the success the golfing influencer from Good Good built over time.

The field of 16 content creators was made to duke it out on the newly restored back nine of the East Lake Golf Club. As a result, the top four golfers after the par-4, 17th, including Wesley Bryan, Luke Kwon, Sean Walsh, and Roger Steele, were qualified to compete in the final playoff hole at the par-5 18th. Bryan finished with a 2-under after the eight holes while the rest carded a figure of 1-under after the same.

As fate would have it, Luke Kwon emerged victorious by beating the remaining four content creators to clinch his first Creator Classic title. It truly is an inspirational story seeing as how the golfer who underwent major surgery on his brain that could have left him paralyzed, made a comeback to the greens to win a PGA Tour-hosted event. Take a bow, Kwon
